Diesel is correct. That's the risk you take, but I figure the nice people you'd want to stick around would normally join in and not just play games anyway... Of course there will be occasional audits, and if someone is playing games for months and doesn't post I reserve the right to remove the user at any time... ;)

Rack: Since you've had some legitimate posts, I've given you the benefit of the doubt for one idiotic posting since you had several that were perfectly fine in the past.

However, your post count has been reduced from 10 to 1 for the infraction.

Oh? I love you too.

Yes, do a random check every few weeks or whatnot, and remove all the 10 post only people's high scores and set their post count back to 0. That'd be a good vb hack. :P

Alien, I asked John over at V3 about where to find that exact code in the 2 arcade threads for having a minimum post count to access the arcade. I searched 140 pages in one thread and 47 in another and didn't find the code. Could you point me to the exact page please? Thanks Bud.

Thanks for the reply Alien. Can you tell me how to tell the user that he needs x amount of posts before he can see the arcade? I used the promotion method and it works pretty well, but when they have less than the amount of posts needed all they get is that they do not have permission to join. I just want it to see "User x you need x amount of posts to view the forum" Can you hook me up with the code for that? Thanks.

just curious, would the user be notified ahead of time that they're about to get their account reset? If so, maybe you could have it so that when that user logs into the web site, at the top of the page there'd be a msg that could also give them the warning.. I rarely check my email anymore.. err but I don't expect to be one of those people.. just thought it'd be a good idea.. just in case ;)

Typically, a person would not have their account "reset". If somone abuses the system to get the required number of posts, they're more likely to be banned outright from the site.

Keep in mind that the arcade is here as a courtesy for the forum members. If someone wants to use the arcade, they need to participate in the forums, and abide by forum rules and guidelines. If someone violates the rules, the forfeit the privilidge of using the arcade.

Conversely, there's no reason that an upstanding member of the forums should worry about having their account "reset" or banned. "Upstanding" being the key word.

And no, based on your behavior so far, you should not expect to be one of those people. Your postings have been insightful, intelligent, and topical. It's a pleasure having you participating in the forums, and a challenge chasing your high scores in the arcade. ;)

So I gotta think of ten things to say before I can play in the arcade, eh?

    Okay, here goes...

As a new member to the forum I like how you handled the arcade situation. Everywhere I go there's always users with 0 posts just playing the forums arcade all day long. Smart work.

Personally I dislike forum arcades. Why go to a message board if there's hundreds of Flash Sites out there?

the idea is for the board members who know each other to compete with each other directly, which is a lot of fun. that experience is reduced when people play in the arcade without participating, which is what we're working on with this policy.

I don't get why we have to post

:ut-oh: I don't get why we have to post 10 times to join. Lots of other free sites just let you play, so what's the point? It doesn't make any sense to me. Do we really get to play or is it just a trick?

read the posts above yours and you'll see all the very good reasons we have for requiring ten posts to play in the arcade

    it's a trick!
    a horrible horrible trick!
    mwahahaha

seriously though... as was said before... it is to encourage posting on the board. this isnt an arcade site... thats just a perk of being a member of the community
