I do, but I haven't had much success with it. I mean, besides getting a hoard of fake hits. Not a single person referred from Twitter has ever joined my forum.

I agree, I've got loads of random followers on both my personal twitter & my PH twitter, and some of the stuff sent, is absolutely stupid...

I've found a fair amount of success with my forum's account (@voiceradio). Since music is a fairly popular subject, people are watching for certain news and posting that helps get traffic (i.e. over the weekend, I posted something about American Idol evictee Pia Toscano and got at least 25 retweets from it...naturally, I didn't include a link to my site in it ). I can also seek out people who are looking for new music, news on a particular artist, someone looking for radio to listen to, etc. and introduce them to our site in hopes they'll join (and it's happened already). Furthermore, I can spread the news by mentioning it on my account (@trombone13), which has over 250 mostly-real followers, lol. Sure, some of your followers are going to be annoying spambots, but just as many are potential visitors that are watching for your tweets, so you should devote some time to using it.

Yes, we post news articles from around the world as well as hot topics on the forum and new additions that we've made. It's brought a few new members, and even one new person makes it worthwhile.

I find Twitter to be incredibly cluttered. Following many people at once results in many missed tweets in updates due to wall after wall of updates incoming every few minutes. Also, obtaining Twitter followers has always been a challenge for me, so Twitter was never really an option for me.

If you get 15 to join just by posting short tweets frequently, is that not a great achievement? Admins need to take all the attempts they can get to make their forum last.

The keyword here is "last". A lot of these members will only join to spamvertise or make one post. Dedicated members are hard to find. :l

I use it to advertise my forum, but not sure how well it works. We get a load of guests when a link is posted, but how many are twitterbots and how many are actual people?

Yeah, I make sure my forum has an official Twitter page. It's good even if I can get a few members to join via Twitter .

Just made a twitter for AdminBB few days ago.. it will come in handy once my followers grow. I only tweet with other webmasters.. and socialize with them on twitter.. thats another way to use twitter as atool to make those people join. If you become friends with them, they will surely join.
