How does that make you feel? MOTHER’S HANDS July 18, 1996 Sitting quietly by her side, I sense her time is near, Gazing upon her sleeping face, I silently shed a tear. Holding gently her cool hand in the warmth of my own, I wonder if she is aware, she will not pass alone. Studying her fail hand, veins blue ’neath skin transparent, I stroke her delicate palm and mourn my ailing parent. Childhood memories bring me back to a time her hands worked magic; As she stitched and sewed wondrous things from every sort of fabric. Endlessly knitting woolen scarves and mittens, Creating warm sweaters fancied with kittens. Hats with pom poms and grey woolen vests, Her hands ever busy, she was at her best. Hungrily, I watched as she rolled dough with care, Shaping raisin eyed ginger men for all to share. Her hands working endlessly; many meals to prepare, And at night gently folding her hands in prayer. I shall never forget her healing touch as I tossed restlessly in my bed, Her loving touch delivering comfort as she soothed my fevered head. Reflecting upon her precious hand, I imprint it in my mind. Never again to see her hands tender, loving, and kind. Now in a peaceful slumber, her hands across her chest, God has called her to His home to give her hands a rest.
