Anyone here using video blogging to promote their site?

Over the past 23 months I have uploaded over 300 videos to youtube. This provides my site with a steady source of targeted traffic.

    Hey Kev,

I've been on some of the same admin-related forums you have for about a year now and I remember seeing a post of yours (in the past) about how you use video blogging.
I think it is a fantastic idea and appears to work extremely well. YouTube has become a great marketing tool and if you use it properly, the results will be awesome.

I personally do not do video blogging because 1) I don't have the time, and 2) I haven't managed a forum that has a niche where video blogging can be used.

Some can argue with point 1 that it should be within my goals to promote the site using various methods, but I just haven't gotten around to trying it.

I'm sure that in the future, I could video blog things like tutorials for various forum scripts (installing, upgrading, etc.) and use them to promote this site. I might consider doing that :)

It's always been an advertising medium that I've been interested in, but never really put the effort into to explore. I suspect, that if done correctly, one could pull in large amounts of traffic.

What type of videos do you upload? Any chance we could see an example? ;)

I have tried to upload all different types of videos - gardening, hiking, camping, fishing, hunting,,,,, just all different types - but they all relate to my websites.

    Thank you.

How do you measure/determine how many users found your site through YouTube and other places you have uploaded your videos?

What percentage of your traffic would you say this is?

Google anylitics shows me how many people clicked links from youtube to my forum. And, there is a running poll on my site.

    survivalistboards.com/showthread.php?t=10336

How did you find this site? The middle number is the number of votes and the percentage is of the total

    Google Search ---------- 542 ------- 39.42%
    Kev's Youtube Video's -- 486 ------- 35.35%
    From a Friend ----------110 ------- 8.00%
    Other - Explain in post -- 237 ------- 17.24%

Now take a look at these numbers. These are my top traffic sources over the past 30 days.

    google (organic) ---- 136,757 --- 48.05%

    (direct) ((none)) ------ 90,645 ----- 31.85%

    yahoo (organic) ------- 9,429 ------ 3.31%

    survivalboards.com (referral)--- 5,897 --- 2.07%

    youtube.com (referral) --- 4,229 --- 1.49%

Google sent my site 30X the traffic as youtube, but just as many people from youtube signed up. That means that the traffic was very targeted.
