What is the going rate for used licenses? I have about 9 that I am looking to get rid of soon. Version 3/4 with branding free, some have blog if that is still a thing there. Would be nice just to sell the whole account at once.

That's a neat idea for a site. Even better would be some type of verification so you know you are not buying a stolen license and an eCommerce setup where the site takes a percentage of sales.

Well only Xenforo provides a verification system all others the buyer needs to give certain information and you can then email sales if the license is valid and can be transferred.

Resale value is next to nothing. vB is no longer supported by competent people and many of the addon devs have moved on. There are many other options out there to waste money on a used vB license.

There are a few people that will still buy vB3/4 licenses to get access to vB 3 at a cheaper price than vBulletin 5. They are few and far between though.

I would. VB5 sucks and unfortunately Xenforo scares away the crowds that like political forums. I owned a good Xenforo for awhile but had to switch to do PDF. If I want to start any other projects I'd need another VB4 cert.

I've a couple of vb licences - I figure they're good for starting a new site, then if there's a need to change software, you'll know it's worth the additional investment. Not really worth the buttons you'd get for resale and the additional transfer fees. Keep 'em as a testing base.

extralicense.com was up for sale recently, Andy, perhaps it would be a decent idea to buy it, add the functionality you suggest, and merge it into this forum? Just a though, dunno if it's a viable idea or not.

Why not just emulate it and make it a standing component here. It would be a nice thing. The hard part would be trying to place protections so that people cannot get scammed.

Yep, but that hard part would be the thing that would set this forum above the competition.

I am curious what it is about XF that scared them away?

In a stereotypical standing nutshell.....political boards are mostly frequented by older users and they don't like change. My users are younger but other boards I've been staff on the median ages we're between 45-70. You'd of course find people younger and you'd find people older; I had some users well into their 90's (on the web! Imagine lol). The political crowd is mostly getting close to or already in retirement. So they like to stick to what they knew and VB4 seems to be a very happy medium for them. I tried a political board with Xenforo in the past....it didn't take well.

Ah that makes sense. Older crowds are definitely stuck in their ways XD

(Your users would hate me for an admin, given how often we have changed lol)

How much would a forum like that go for?
