Have you ever had any problems with a member of your staff because of their attitude or reaction to certain things? I used to have 'frequent' discussions with a global moderator in my forum. She liked doing things her way, and I was a bit of a control freak. Let's just say we had our fair share or PM exchanges :p She was still a great moderator though, she was really active and did know what she was doing.
I don't know how she could be a GREAT moderator if you were constantly having to correct her and she liked doing things her own way. Even if she was active and whatnot, the fact that she insisted on doing things her way and you had to do so much hand-holding tells me that you haven't ever really had a truly great mod.
Maybe not... but we all have different standards for greatness I never said I had to correct her though, I said we had different views on how some things should be handled. She turned out to be right many times. I may have exaggerated a bit with the 'great' part (I guess nostalgia just kicked in), yet I believe it was healthy to have a second opinion that wasn't the same as mine.
We have had a few disagreements on the forums, dealing with a member ect but nothing that has ever caused a 'public' forum problem. I would classify myself as a calm person who will listen and explain when needed to and I think that stops my problems like this.
Well, if you are not seeing eye to eye but they are a good moderator, then you need to make it clear that your forum rules for staff are that and what it means. I know many people that were moderators and they believed it made the forum gods and that they would do things just to show some posters that they were the boss there. But I am not sure that is the right attitude. After all it is suppose to be a pleasant environment for all not just for some.
Perhaps you could find a middle ground with her. If she is constantly doing things 'her way' then there must be something about the standard method she does not like. Talk to her and see what is going on, rather than just letting her know what she is doing is wrong. Maybe she finds her method easier. You did say she is a global moderator, so maybe for cultural reasons, she has to handle certain problems a certain way.
