On all of my other forums, I always replace the default spiders_vbulletin.xml file with this one: spiders_vbulletin.xml system 1.2 - that contains over 500 spider identifiers. So I replaced the one here on AA, but it still only shows "Guest" for everybody (including spiders) on Who's Online page. How come it isn't recognizing the updated XML file?
Thanks for the spiders XML link Nick, didn't know about that. I must install on my site as we've been having a lot of users online lately and the ability to distinguish more spiders from actual users would be very handy.
im an idiot...i tried importing it thru the admincp...LOLOL... im all good now...its nice to see all the spider names on the who's list. thanks nick..
Good point Brandon. I've saved over it a number of times. The last couple of times I've remembered though
Just have to set the "enable spider display" option set to 'yes' and update your spiders.xml file as Nick mentioned in the first post
Brandon, the first thing I would do when upgrading a site was to delete spiders.xml from the downloaded package. I drove myself silly one night, trying to sort why I wasn't seeing all the spiders I had been. :o It's always the simple things, isn't it?
i do...but they only show when you go to "who's online". I mean on the main forumshome page...down at the bottom...it only shows members names, not spiders.
Oh, I see what you're saying. That's a mod that Boofo offered online but is no longer available. But, here's another very similar one: Show Spiders on ForumHome - vBulletin.org Forum
I always been meaning to do this and I forgot how to do it, but simple google searched helped me. Thank you for this!
wow...thats alot of damn code changing...whatta bummer...I wonder if anyone still has the DL file that I could use?
I always delete the spiders.xml file and the favicon.ico. I also keep a copy on the server with a variation such as my_favicon.ico, so if I do accidentally overwrite the live copy, I can just rename the variant instead of having to dig through all of my site files to find the custom favicon.
