What kind of chair does everyone use? I have had my Herman Miller Embody Chair for about 6 years now I guess. So far it is holding up well. Only issue is my kids climbing over it. One screw has fell out of the armrest and disappeared. Otherwise it is a great chair, lots of support and ways to adjust it. It is nice not having to buy a new chair every few years.
I have the same chair, it's been great. You might want ot contact Herman Miller, they have crazy amazing customer support. I bet they will send you a new screw or even come out to fix it at your house. Here is what the Embody looks like for those who haven't heard of them yet: I bought these chairs for the folks that work with me a few years ago. I haven't heard any complaints. They are pricey but you don't have to buy a new chair every couple years.
Quickly looked at the article. This isn't something new (from a quick glance). I've had colleagues that have been doing speeches about how sitting is killing you. Some research is suggesting it is worse than smoking cigarettes (not sure if the article mentions that). So if that is the case, I guess the next thing on life insurance qualifications would be "how long do you sit at work?"...
Love my Herman Miller chair and it seems to be bullet proof. I was pretty skeptical initially, it's not especially soft but at the end of the day, I am less tired. One thing that probably matters as much as a chair is moving around regularly - set an alert and get up and move every hour.
Unfortunately, I have two cats who would probably treat it as a scratching post, as they have done my current one. Which makes it hard to throw that kind of money at a chair.
I've also got an Embody and love it. First time a chair has lasted me 4+ years, and it doesn't look like it's stopping anytime soon.
While I would like a Herman Miller chair, I settled for a $125 'ish one from Ikea with a high mesh back. Works great!
