Do you have or generate a sitemap for your forum on a regular basis, for search engine purposes? Based on your forum platform, how do you do it? Manually or with a modification? What search engines do you submit your sitemap to? For vBulletin forums I use vBSEO's free sitemap generator. It works wonders and has benefited a lot, from what I can tell.
Not sure what you mean. Do you have a site map button on this site where we can see all the different areas? (I've been trying to figure out what topics should go where)
Hm, I should have specified that I was referring to a sitemap for search engines. E.g., generating a sitemap and submitting it in the Google Wembaster Tools area.
I'm not sure if it was that or my WordPress.com generate sitemap that I inserted into WebMaster tools which I use for my silly sites, it actually helped. I checked in last night and entry of mine came up as Google #5 result for page 1 that was a query for "Is Jay Leno Sex Crazed?" and there was #10 for "Jay Leno Catholic Church Jokes".
I use the vbseo site map generator. It generators the site map and then my google webmaster tools grabs it every 24 hours.
Sitemaps are an simple way for site owners to tell search engines about pages on their sites that are available for crawling,a sitemap, or site index, is a webpage that shows all the different pages the site possesses. If the site is massive, the sitemap may provide a general guide, not to each page, but to pages under definite subject headings.
Xenforo has an add on for a sitemap which you can upload to your server for easy indexing for google and other search engines.
Just FYI vBulletin now has a built in sitemap generator which runs on a cron weekly or how ever long you set it at.
I've been using vBSEO's sitemap generator on a bunch of sites. Started with 3.2.0, and ended with 3.6.0. It worked for a while with 3.2.0/3.3.0, but anything after that, traffic dropped. I even put on Relevant Replacements in places... but no cigar. Then I got xenForo, I discovered the magic of Jaxel's xenUtilies. I'm getting more traffic with CODForums with a mix of this, and social media.
