Who's ever actually thought of running their own host? Did you think hard before doing it, or was it a spur of the moment decision?
I have ran one before exclusively just for testing and knowing how to run one, which I do.. it was pretty confusing at first, but I learned the basics and it was easy. I did have a thought of officially starting one but that interst soon ran out. I much rather stick to running forums, and not go on to hosting, I see alot of newbies making new hosts, and not knowing a thing about it.
yea, tell me about it. My advice is that if your looking to get into the industry, look for a small host to start in, build up your experience and ensure you have the funds to start it up, if not just stick around the host your working in and maybe you'd get a promotion and help run it at some point.
Thats a biggie, I see alot of people starting a host and they d0nt even have the financial backing... its pretty sad.
Haha, yea there are plenty being advertised on FP, and they have a .co.cc domain lol. Thats a BIG fail, it cracks me up every time when I see them
Thought of it back when the idea of running servers and all that jazz was really exciting. Took me some time lurking on WHT that running your own host is a bad idea in such a market.
The market is just over saturated with them, nobody wants to use a host that doesn't have an established client base so its a bit of a catch-22 for new hosts unless they use a lose-winning technique. Making a living with a host isn't something I'd plan as it'd be hard to get the few hundred clients you'd need to really live off of it.
