Wow im not an american but even i had heard about Ted Kennedy's turn and the news only just said about it now (come on not bad for being in Australia)
He was suffering from brain damage, and according to ABC News, he lived longer than the doctor and family expected.
What? You do realize he was in govt for 47 years? In that time he has sponsored many bills that have made this country that much better? I wasn't talking about health care. It is just a shame that peoples own greed stole that from him...and will most like keep stealing that from all of us.

Really? So..you don't think it is good that today because of him people that are 18 can vote? He got the age lowered from 21. You don't think the country is better All the bills he sponsored for fair rights and equality? Womens rights and civil rights? No I don't, how many 18 year olds actually educate themselves about politics to make a educated choice based on fact and not feelings or looks. They'll just go with the flow of "popular" or "cool" assuming you can even get them out to vote IE: See Obama and where his approval ratings currently are after we see what him in charge is doing YEA SOCIALISM :frown:
Sorry, but some of my friends and I [about half of my college!] have constant debates about politics, although I really hate the whole process[it's basically a bashing campaign and find dirt in others for you to look good which people actually FAIL to see and most just vote for looks] I have to say that the probability of a teenager to make the *right* choice is pretty high. I have yet to vote [I only turned 18 last december], but I have to say for the governor of PR, I blame the people who are 21 years or older actually, it's their fault PR is going down the drain, not many 18 year old voted in the last election[not many registered to vote], just thanks to the 'wise' decision 21yr or older made PR is turning into communism, no joke.
The argument for 18 year olds getting the right to vote was that if they're old enough to serve their country in the army--and possibly die in the process--they should have their say in how the country is run. I'll be the first to tell you that government health care is not without problems. But our current model, where insurance companies with a profit motive decide whether you get treatment or not, is downright inhumane.
And it's only going to get worse with President Obama's tax hike on income above 250k. Insurance companies have to raise rates in order to maintain the same profit margins. President Obama is going to need an additional tax in crease to maintain his budget....I mean where do you think that cash for clunkers comes from or the money for all these czars? As for Obamacare, show me a government ran insurance that works? This plan is more about control than anything else. As it stands our nation is 43% government ran. This government health care plan will put us over 50%. You think big government is bad now wait till you need a By-pass and you're stuck on a waiting list for 3 months due to paper work.
Show me a government-run anything that works, really. :doh: DMV office - we all love going there, right? Post Office - long lines, plus they now face a multi-billion dollar deficit. Medicare - a program with sub-optimal care that is going bankrupt. Social Security - also going bankrupt. Budget Deficit - ever-growing, as we all know. Yeah, right. :frown: Big government undermines economic growth so much, and it's so corrupt in the first place. It's just not the direction we should be heading. - America's current health care is top-notch (not the price, but the care itself) and is sought after by foreigners (especially from neighboring countries). Of course it's going to be expensive. Do you expect quality, personal care for dirt-cheap prices? If you go with a government-run public option, and everybody gets care, how can the high quality be maintained? It can't. Yes, every single John Doe will then be eligible for care, but to what standard of quality? Very low. Essentially, quality will be spread too thin and the entire health care system will diminish. It will be just another failed government program, not to mention take-over. There are other ways and programs to help those that need it, but putting every American into the same boat for the same quality of care (i.e. low-quality) simply isn't satisfactory. What happened to the hard-working American values? Why does everybody automatically feel like they can immigrate illegally and be entitled to our supreme care, for example?
You're are correct, I was trying to keep it short. Anyhow, I actually live in a small town...well small compared to others, just around 110k people. We actually have people come in from over seas for simple health related stuff like eye correction surgery.
