What are you currently doing? Renting or owning? What are the pro's and con's of each?

    -----------------------------------
I wished I owned a home but I dont think I will ever be able to do that unless I marry someone with good credit and a good job. There is many times where I have been thankful that I didnt own the house I lived in as sometimes things can go wrong and can end up costing the owner hundreds to thousands of dollars. Also I prefer living somewhere where they have someone do the landscaping and upkeep of the property. Not to mention not having to pay property taxes.

    We'll its really two questions.

    1 - Own or Rent?
    2 - House or Co-Op/Condo?

    There are benefits to each.

There is a very cool calculator here to help project expenses associated with each scenario: http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2014/upshot/buy-rent-calculator.html?_r=0&abt=0002&abg=1

It's not always best to own. Things like how long you intend to live in one place and interest rates make a big difference in these choices.

When I was child I lived with my parents. When I met my future husband, we decided to rent a flat and live there. We've been living there and we were looking for sth to buy. And now we are on our own. I do not regret this decision.

I live in my own home. We live there with my wife, we plan to have children. Our parents helped us buy this house. Now I am doing repairs in the house. I like that I can do any repairs. I have a backyard, my wife this year took up gardening. I want to make a small patio. I want to make wooden benches and a fire pit. It would be impossible in the apartment or would have to agree with the landlord for a very long time if we rented it.
