I'm about to install either Photopost Pro or vBGallery on my newest site, and I'd like your opinions on which one to use. Are the extra features of Pro better than vBGallery when you consider that Pro needs to be styled separately from vB? I like that vBGallery integrates with vB's style system, but it's lacking some of the features of the Pro version. Which way would you go?
As I have read, Photopost Pro is much more robust with even more options but lacks the vb integration which you may be able to do yourself if need be. Personally I wish we bought Photoplog as we could have saved the money. vBGallery seems to have plenty of options to me but I am not so experienced with their software.
I have Photopost Pro and it's integrated with vB3.8.4. Not sure where you guys are getting this information that pro doesn't integrate with vBulletin. I have never used vB Gallery, but I can tell you that Pro has been very nice. All of my forum skins work with it just fine as well. I have no idea how about Pro and vB4 though. It's possible it will no longer integrate with vB4.
I must have gotten that wrong, however I did find this page which may be useful for doing a comparison: PhotoPost PHP Photo Sharing Photo Gallery: Pro vs. vBGallery
That's a good comparison page. It's confirmed you can integrate it with vBulletin 3, but I am wondering if they will continue to support integration for vB4? I have to believe they will when you consider all the different software available to integrate it with, but it's something you will want to keep in mind and research if you're intending to upgrade your site to vB4 eventually.
I'm talking about integrating with vBulletin's template system, and the info that I had was based on that exact list. If it DOES work with vB styles, then I know my choice. Nick, those are my choices because those are what I have.
See for yourself: Main Index - Orbiter Gallery That is Photopost Pro fully integrated, including the template system. Hope that helps.
I was debating this same question, but settled on the free photoplog and will probably upgrade to pro (which is like $35 vs over $100 for the others) once I get more participation on it.
Yes, I use Pro as well. You can limit visibility and usability by vB usergroup (with a little manipulation.) All members and visitors can view my forum's gallery, but only paid members can have their own gallery and upload to the gallery. There are far more options than with vb's own album. In addition to member galleries we have some special general galleries where they can show off collectables by type. It gives the site eye-candy.
I run it as well but i use the VBGallery version. For some reason, it looked better to me. When i started the site, within 3 months i bought the photopost package. My members didnt like the PhotoPost Pro, so i switched it to the VbGallery. Seemed to do the trick. Recently, they just raised the price on it too, i think last month.
Okay, I'm confused...on vBGallery we can upload zip files and other file types other than images. How do I set that up in Photopost Pro?
There is an option in the Photopost admin panel (which is separate from the vB ACP) where you can change that along with lot's of other stuff too. It takes a little time to go through all the settings, but that is definitely a setting you can change.
If you could let me know what setting to change I'd appreciate it. I went through them all and can't figure it out. :o I went back to vBGallery in the meantime. I know that one.
