You tell me, Boss. In all seriousness, I've never really considered that form of communication - I've always been turned off, as it looks a bit too complicated.
I'm sure that the actual user interface is far superior when compared to that of an IRC client, correct?
Not all of them have the same IM, some use their phones, some are unwilling/unable to DL certain apps...
Well if you using something like Pidgin, then the IRC chat isn't so bad; it's very similar to that of a regular IM client.
I generally don't want to be bothered with anything but AIM. If I have an internet connection, I am signed onto AIM. The one exception is when someone needs me to use MSN, in which cause I will sign onto it via Meebo. But I don't even know why people use MSN over AIM. iChat is fun, too. But you usually both need a Mac (iChat to a regular webcam usually doesn't work for me).
I've had moderator meetings since I first brought on my moderators. Aside from our normal interactions within our moderator forums, I have them all join me in a meeting (usually at least once a month if not more) to get some ideas generated and get some feedback flyin' back and forth. We hold our meetings in a password protected chat room within our Flashchat that I have on the site and it's been absolutely great for us. The more we meet, the better we feel about things going on and the more informed everyone is! Remember folks..."communication is key!"
I think a quarterly IM meeting is good. I tend to prefer MSN, then again that may be only because I'm unwilling to use anything else.
We use IRC for vBulletin Staff. Really, I don't even pay attention to it half the time as it gets buried under other windows. Not really an effective medium in my opinion. Others might find it more useful though. Lately we have had meetings with GotoMeeting for video presentation of different user's screens and Skype for telecommunications across 2 continents. Its a lot better in allowing you to get your ideas across this way than with IRC.
The females on my staff have conspired against me to create the first official staff meeting (over Skype) that Elliquiy has ever had... but only for the women. No mans allowed. I'm amused >_>
