I honestly don't have a rule page up that the members can see..I have one made that's good but I don't know how to post it.
Good question. i find I just try to keep the basics up. Eg no spamming. I only make more harsh rules when it is needed.
yea I agree! No Spamming is key in a forums rule page! I have rules on my forum, and they are thought through lots, by me... So that there aren't like 50.000 rules... that the member cant be bothered to read! I hate forums that have a HUGE rule page... I personally never read the looong ones! But this site is straight to the point SO I have read all the rules, and most importantly I understand them... if you see my Into... you will see that I am a Brit who lives in Spain... well I know more Spanish than I do English lol...
My rules are based on the rules I had for the chatroom I used to have before I opened my forum.. and I've had to add new rules anytime a new situation arose and caused a problem.. I have had to be quite tough back then because I've had to deal with problems with my old chatroom that most wouldn't have to deal with in running a forum. That was the major reason I decided to run a forum instead. I simply kept my rules as they were, and made a few changes to work for the forum. I've had the same rules since I opened in 2004.
I make guidelines I don't want my users to feel controlled or be like an admin setting down laws, it works well for me and my members generally follow the guides.
I just have basic rules in place. No one likes to see a forums with a load of rules stopping them enjoying the forum.
I only put basics - I'm not a fan of forums that have to many rules, I think it takes the fun away. I normally just put the basic no spamming, no offending anyone with language, ect.
only some basic; no spamming, no text message type; and respect others. I believe those who come and join forums already know that basic stuff.
