So i closed CoDMaster and opened a Fansite for a game called Soldier Front, Their official community is just aweful so basically all their loyal forums came to my site yay! Bad thing is im getting database errors which are:mysql_connect() [<a href='function.mysql-connect'>function.mysql-connect</a>]: User jethqnet_sfgamin already has more than 'max_user_connections' active connections /home/jethqnet/public_html/sfgamingforum/includes/class_core.php on line 312 A Quick google shows that its my host...So what VPS would run fine? SFGaming
Tech, are you looking for a good host? I assume that's what you're asking. I've been with Knownhost for a few years and they've been great.
Just raise the number of max connection in the my.cnf file If your looking for another host, take a look at Future Hosting - they have been my hosting provider for almost 4 years.
I believe that might not be possible depending on who his shared hosting account is with. The site says the max number of users online was 46, they must have all been clicking on the same thread for that to cause an error. We used to be with Host Gator shared account which has 25 connections maximum, and only got 2 errors with 80+ people online over a long period of time. I don't have any specific recommendation except to research. Whatever you tentatively decide on you may want to double check what the people at webhostingtalk.com think too. I've seen some strange recommendations for hosts which don't fare too well on webhostingtalk on many sites, but I've only had experience with one vps provider.
Ok thanks everyone, I guess ill register at webhostingtalk and get a second opinion. After an incident with my sites going slow (before i opened SFGaming) i opened a support ticket and they said they suspending someone for abuse, I then asked them (after opening SFGaming and being the following day) Will i get suspended as im gettin Max user connections. They said: Which im going to do, But they basically just said it..
I am admittedly biased as a paid consultant, but URLJET has been very good to me and the sites I've placed there.
"throwing the forum on lockdown for an hour to let things cool off "????? Surely they were kidding? If not, its time to find another hosting provider. Close a forum and "let things cool off" - that comical and sad at the same time.
We have absolutely no issues with our VPS from HWS Hosting. Rich (the owner) treats us exceptionally well. If there is a problem (such as our server outage last week), he's on it until it gets fixed, no matter the time of day.

A quick brings up this, it explains it better than I ever could: Should I Chose A Managed or Unmanaged Hosting Plan?
