I agree...quality, not quantity. That said, there were some great questions and responses. I've always considered Scott to be one of the few that "get it" in the community discussion software world and I think his insights are invaluable. @s.molinari. Thank you for a frank and very interesting talk. You have confirmed in a very clear way what some of the customers of IB have been trying to say but kept getting their posts deleted on VB official forums. When admins and mods delete valid and genuine comments that are an effort to bring the shortcomings of a system to the attention of the powers that be, it is a clear indication that they are losing it. When staff members are more interested in showing they have the big stick instead of helping the customers who pay their wages, then failure is sure to follow. Your talk is very insightful and informative thank you.
I came to Germany with the US Air Force and married my wife, had a son and ended up staying, once the cold war ended. Germany is a nice place to live. Scott
A user on the Xenforo forum asked this very good question..... This is my answer, which I though wouldn't be appropriate to write on XF's own forum. So here goes... Skooppa itself won't be direct competition to XF and it won't be a software. It is a service . This is one of the shifts in thinking we must make sure goes well with as many people as possible. We must get people away from on-premise software thinking and all of its PITAs. Skooppa will be a platform for swift web application development and a platform for web site creation, any kind of web site. And, a forum application could be created on Skooppa and distributed across it. Theoretically, there could even be more than one forum application delivered on Skooppa. But to spill a bean. A core system in Skooppa will be a very interactive discussion engine, which can be used for a forum application. And actually, if someone wanted to, they could create their own discussion engine within Skooppa. However, Skooppa will have some really cool global functionalities attached to the discussion engine, which are integrated in the system for each site and will also go above and beyond each site to bring the knowledge, opinions and activity found on Skooppa sites to the users of Skooppa personally. And yes, since Skooppa will be a service and a network, the users will only be one group of people. Just like it is in real life! With the big differences in Skooppa being, a Skooppa user's life and a Skoopa site owner's life and a Skooppa developer's life will get much easier and convenient with Skooppa. That is one of our main goals. Simply think about ideas, any ideas, for web applications created around and supported by interactive discussion, instead of only "discussion in a forum". Then you will be thinking along the lines of one part of Skooppa's major concepts. I sure wish I could spill all the beans about what we've come up with and I want dearly to make all of those beans a reality, but I have to keep the details a secret, until we've gotten a good portion of the ideas in code and functioning. I hope everyone understands that. This should get really interesting. And to make the plea again, we are in need of some good web developers. Well, you're right about the bean. It is one of the more important beans. But it is just a concept and only one of many and I still don't think anyone can get a full picture of where we are heading with just that one bean. There are many more. Scott
