Images in Sigs?

I wasn't sure where to post this... But i would like to know why images seem to disabled in sigs? Have you had bad experiences in the past or something?

 

We don't currently allow images in sigs. I don't see that changing in the foreseeable future.

 

I think this server is large.....but I really don't understand why would you turn it off for?

It feels like GXS's server, but better.

 

IMHO, it doesn't really add anything other than tacky visuals to something that doesn't require them. Instead of being used sensibly, most people throw the most annoying, visually displeasing images into their sigs, or huge banners that just take forever to download.

But I don't set board policy... this was Alien's choice, and FWIW, I agree with it.

You got a problem with it? Take it to da man!

 

I'm with DD and Alien on this one. The big, scary, epilepsy-inducing graphics have no place in sigs.

Yes, you won't find images in sigs here. There is no way of limiting it to small buttons or mini banners that are attractive and quick to load. Every site that has it on looks pretty ghetto inside the threads either because people don't follow layed out sig rules, or they have no sig rules. Your eye is also drawn to them more than the posts the way I see it. Not to mention many dial-up users can't stand them.. We're barely dial-up speed right now as it is, even with all the tweaks we've done to the site and the server.

All we allow is smilies and bbcode in sigs for the foreseeable future, sorry Shane.

You can put file size and dimension limits on signatures, why dont you make it like 30 KB maximum and dimmensions 300 x 80?

 

as he said, we're already approaching the point where this site would be inaccessible to dialup users (like me, over the summer) - there's nothing wrong with the forums the way they are, so it's the general consensus that images in sigs wouldn't add enough to the community to bother with them, restrictions or not

 

30kb per sig = 450k per thread page.

these get especially annoying in threads where people barely post anything (word game threads and such)
i've been to forums where everyone had HUGE banners in their sigs, and one line posts, and man it is s frustrating to scroll through

 

Yeah, That happens alot with other forums, I rather enjoy the cleaned and simplified aliensoup forum, Excellent choice Alien :nod:
