Long-time lurker and admin at Japan Reference (JREF), high time for my own intro (thanks @Uncle Frank JREF). We started our forum in 2000/01 on a flat-file software called Discus and moved to vB (back then 2.2.3) in March 2002. Since we upgraded to 4.2.0, I've been desperately trying to convert our forum to Xenforo (acquired my first license in Oct. 2010), but due to our DB encoding (X-SJIS) and other discrepancies we've so far been unable to convert to UTF-8. I haven't given up hope yet and will try again once I have more time.
