how high have you ever seen your server loads go? Like with vb..in the admincp you can see your load times....
I'd imagine they can see them go really high. I see a number of threads all over with people on GoDaddy and having loads of over 20 for hours at a time.
Why why why why why does anyone spend all that money on a professional software solution like vBulletin, and then put it on GoDaddy hosting? Honestly, I've never been able to work this one out.
Because hosting is a commodity. There are literally hundreds of providers and thousands of resellers. Like any commodity, the market goes for the most cost-effective provider that they can find. For most, looking for quality in a commodities vendor is secondary to cost. That doesn't mean that quality isn't important, it is just not the most important. You can see this in all commodities markets from oil, corn, pork, beef, cars, computers and yes web hosting.
lets see....becuz i had NO idea what i was doing when i was looking for a host...and i was on the phone with VB...and THEY recommended godaddy...there...i said it...VB...recommended....GoDaddy. Now...that a year has gone by...and im a little more familair with the software...i know i made a fine choice. I've only been down maybe an hour in the 8 months i've had godaddy...thats not bad at all...plus it was cheap as all hell..has a VERY easy to use FTP client... I'm looking now to upgrade...do I have any idea where to go????? NO....cuz theres a million choices...but its cool....i'll find sumthing.. :-)
Your using godaddy as a hosting provider? excuse me for just a second, lololllolllololololooolol ok, I'am back,,,, hang on again,,, lololololololololhahahahahahahahah no, seriously, ok, I'll tell you about my godaddy hosting experience, lol, hahahah, lolololo, hahahahah Ok,,,,, how high did my resource usage go? 100% - at the very least. That was after my server was high jacked and used as part of a DDOS attack against a US Government website. When I called godaddy tech support, they told me its not their problem. Whats really "strange" - when I switched hosting providers, my server has not been highjacked in the past 3 years. Funny how things like that work out.
I'am being very serious - my godaddy VPS was highjacked on Thanksgiving weekend 2 years ago. Some script kiddy was able to get access to the server. They then used the wget command to download a file to a cache folder. When ran, the file caused the server to max out its TCP/IP connections in a DOS attack against a US Government website. I called tech support several times. And each time they told me "its not our problem." So my servers resources were anywhere from nothing all the way to 100%. Depending on whether it had been hacked or not. That next week after the thanksgiving holidays I called tech support and talked to a supervisor. And he had the same attitude - its not their problem. I changed host by the next weekend.
I can't say that I'm surprised, Kevin. I was quite fond of their domain name services as of last month, but recently made the switch to another registrar. It seems as though their horrendous hosting attitude is rubbing off on many of their other branches.
I personally use byethost premium servers for hosting but for my domains (jetgaming) i brought from godaddy and have had no problems, The domain was successfully accessible within 6 hours and any support i needed i went straight to my hosting support as they are amazing.
I highly recommend vBulletin Web Hosting - vBulletin Management - vbulletin Upgrades - vBulletin Services for the best vB hosting! I use them myself and it was quite the job to get me to leave liquidweb after having been with them for several years.
i heard of that place...i guess they strictly do vb and do it real well.. but i think im gonna go with the same as AA..wiredtree...
You're not going to regret your decision, if you decide to go with them. I'm aware of the fact that I sound like a fanboy, but quite simply, I love WiredTree. Originally, I had purchased a VPS from them and couldn't have been more happy - the combination of excellent technology and their incredible support team caused me to gasp quite a few times. I don't think I've ever waited more than five minutes for a response... generally less. I remember submitting a ticket due to a script upgrade I desired and it was taken care of in three minutes, at roughly 4:00 AM (3:00 AM their time). I often tell them that they need to take a well-deserved vacation. They're on all of the time. I now have two dedicated servers with them and couldn't be happier - I'm thrilled. Kneel, something to also keep in mind is the fact that they have been making quite a few changes to their network, particularly for VPS and Hybrid clients. Some of these changes have been outlined in this press release. Okay, I'm done ranting on about my love for them.
Intel Dual Xeon Harpertown 512MB Guaranteed SLM RAM 40GB RAID-10 Disk Space 1000GB Bandwidth 4 Dedicated IPs cPanel / WHM Virtuozzo 4 with Power Panel Fantastico, RVSkin, WHMCS Available so...thats their lowest plan... can I run two VB's on that? i guess I didnt realize how much $$ i was lookin at...now that i also have to re-new my vb also :-( and my www name... :-(
It depends on the level of traffic that these two instances would be receiving. You should be perfectly fine to start, and as your communities begin to grow, you can always upgrade to another level. When dealing with virtual private servers, the amount of memory and CPU power delegated to each environment is what you'll want to monitor. What's offered in the VPS512 plan should work out nicely for you for a while.
