Every community eventually develops its own slang, as a shorthand way of referring to complex concepts or to signify membership in the group. I wouldn't be surprised if the community of forum owners comes up with many slang terms for what they do. What are some you know of, or have made up yourself? For example: ban hammer: to ban permanently with no recourse the OP: the original poster, the person who started the thread And at least in my own mind, I refer to the practice of using counterfeit commercial software as "running nulled"
I was thinking specifically about slang pertaining to running forums, but forum-specific slang is interesting too
Other than the usual IM and online acronyms, I don't use many forum-related terms other than OP, really. Maybe I do but they're just not coming to mind.
Same, Nick - I'd rather use full-blown, grammatically correct wording and/or phrasing as opposed to "slang". I do so every now and then, but not often (as you know). Indeed, we're all guilty of doing so. :lol:

Just remembered another one I've seen elsewhere: AKICOTF: All Knowledge Is Contained on the Forum. Given a sufficiently large forum, you'll be likely to find someone knowledgeable about almost anything.
I'd have to agree with you, Nick. Regardless of the primary subject of discussion, there is almost always a constant flow of "off-topic" discussion, as well. Given the large size of a community and its activity, one could indeed find what they need with the proper search(ing).
Lol, LMGTFY! xDDD Umm, usually when some one gets banned they mention the " ban hammer" Since people on the chat can flag, they call it the " Flag gun" or " Flagging lazor" When some one makes a comment about the staff that they find " silly" they use "Bawls to teh Lawlz". ^-^ Kuri's reason to being banned was "'Cause you're an old Pedobear ,and was trying to get many loli's.. so you're a menace to the community....oh and because you almost destoryed it"
one of my forums has loads.... well theres the posting of any word backwards (i can actually now do this as well as i can do forwards, although now due to the [reverse] bbcode, we are getting lazy! spelling your name backwards in a post, generally means your evil twin has posted it generally the ban hammer (one forum i am on has the ban hammer as a rank image for mods, and that kinda stuck), being sent to banned land or the land of the banned is about getting banned mod towers is where posts go when they are held back for moderation, although you can also be locked up in mod towers when you are banned, or where the deleted posts are kept, or where the staff chat about things. it or she who shall not be named, is the ex admin who pretty much destroyed our original forum and you offer donuts to the mods if you get a post deleted as a way of saying sorry or bribing them not to ban you
