Do you ever find yourself forgetting about (forgetting to moderate something in violation of) or even breaking your own rules? For example, maybe when you wrote your community rules you added a rule stating that a member may only advertise their own website after they have made 20 posts. Then someone advertises their website having only 10 posts and you completely miss it, even replying to the thread will feedback on their site. Or you have a no more than 5 lines in in a signature rule and you actually have 7 in your own because you completely forgot about the rule you made. Ever done this?
I've never done this, but I've been on the verge of doing so - once. It would have been embarrassing.
I break my rules quite often and am reprimanded by the members of the community. This rarely happens, though.
Yes, lol. It's happened to me time and time again. Members get a kick out of teasing me, but I just play along. Members know what's expected out of them, but hey we're human, not drones.
You're supposed to lead by example. Once you break the rules, then everybody else would think they can break the rules.
lol, i dont disobey them alot and if i do i will check back on the rules and edit it out, but sometimes i do but very small.. If my members disobey then ill infract them as we have an infraction thread with different reason and number points for each offence so people know how many points they will get. Recently we got spammed by some spammers who spam 'drugs' as soon as i IP banned one and then announced any spammers will be immediately ip banned from the forums and main site they all stopped. Im also secretly the boss of you!
You'll have to forgive Boss. He likes to think that he's in control at all times (regardless of the situation), but in reality, he's not.
Yep, I can relate. The two torrent forums on my site have some pretty strict rules that all uploads must comply with. The mods go through and make sure every torrent uploaded meets those rules and then they click a 'verify' button to show it's been looked over (or another button if there are some issues). Well, the mods finally asked me to add an entry to the Mod Log to show who was verifying the threads cuz some were being OK'd and they shouldn't have been. So, I added that for them only to have a couple of the Mods say "Lynne, we appreciate your help in those forums, but maybe you should leave it to us." They are good, which is why they are the Mods and I am there to just help them when they holler.
:unhunh: I literally started smiling as I got closer to finishing reading that because I knew exactly what was coming, lol.
Lol @Lynne. Yes, I do indeed sometimes miss some points that should be addressed when browsing the posts and my moderators are sometimes hesitant to handle it if they see I replied to the thread, because they assume I let it be for a reason or something.
You can't forget your rules, whilst the members might laugh along with it at the time or not, it always comes back and bites you on the ass big time in the long run. People are very quick to forget the good things you do but they never forget the bad
