A couple people asked to see the new design I'm working on so I'll post what I have done so far. Its still quite "rough around the edges" since I'm still moving quite a bit of things around and having put the final polish on it yet. I am up for comments/criticism if you'd like to give it. Like I said, still lots of work to be done on it, but its a start. I know alot of people like my current design, but I just want something less heavy and cramped. .
Thanks Havok 4 hours or so on this design. Right now its just a .psd mockup, but thats how I start all my designs. I've got many other mockups, but I think this is the one i'll progress with. I've always thought the hardest client to design for is yourself because I go back and forth on things numerous times.
Rocket, I think this looks phenomenal thus far. I am already a fan of your current design, and this one really brings out the 4 in vBulletin 4. I presume that's what you are doing; making your skin for vB 4 - similar to vBulletinSetup (which I'm eager to see).
Oh, Nice. Only 4 hours? It looks like you put a whole day into it! Are you the one that will be coding it? Or are you hiring someone to do it for you.
I'll be coding it, once vB 4.0 becomes available I'd like to have it finished in time to put up after vB releases 4.0 and does a few bug fixes, then I'll go live with it. I'm also going to be doing a wordpress design to match.
Very nice work so far, Andy. I love your current style, but this one looks quite promising. I look forward to watching this progress.
Speaking of which, how much would you charge for a fairly simple custom vB 4 style with matching WP style? My forum has been using a free skin since we started (Lineolated Parakeet Forum - Linnie Forum Community) but I'd like to go for a custom skin come 4.0. I'd like to keep it relatively similar and simple, but with some nice modern touches.
It would actually be hard to give a price until we get ahold of vB 4 and see what styling it will involve. I've been asked for prices, but I'm not even thinking about it til I know what I'm doing with vB 4. Andy, the new style is absolutely gorgeous! Of course I'm biased, as red is my favorite color.
I agree, but in the long haul vB 4.0s xhtml/css base will make it easier to style with. So I'm willing to learn the new template system asap. the XHTML/CSS is the easy part, its just figuring out vB's little quirks that'll be the problem
Good work. I think the footer could use some work and detail as well as the banner. But not bad at all.
haha I'm going to lock myself in my office and not come out til I've learned how to work the new system. The quicker the better!
