What do the envelopes mean with the little dot in the middle? at first i thought they were cameras, although i dont know why there would be cameras either

... I'm so glad you asked!

The folders that appear to have a dot in the middle of them, signify topics that you have participated in at one time or another!

    :D

<edit>eh, alien got to it before me, but i'm going to leave my post defiantly anyway :D</edit>

when they have the dot, that means you've posted in them. wehn they're open with the dot, you've posted and there's something new since you've posted

if it's green with no dot, you've seen it but haven't posted. if it's gray with no dot, you've never seen it.

when it's gray with two little sheets sticking out and a dot, i have no idea what that means ;) can anyone help me out?

What about simply ALT tagging the images?
It seems that most of the other images on the site have this done. Why not those as well?

Good idea Dan .. but once people get used to the icons the ALT tags won't be needed, it would be helpful for newbies though.

Well, the ALT tags would be just as useful for newbies as a FAQ of some sort explaining what the icons meant.

And let's be honest... proper ALT tags are just a fundamental part of good web design.

The coding of the icons within that column are impossible to code alt tags in individually with the way the script is now...

My workaround, has been to add one particular alt tag for anything within that column, pointing the user to the bottom of the page where the icon legend is so they can now see an explanation.

    Good enough?

Strange that it was written in such a way that one couldn't assign tags. Bad coding. ;)
Isn't there some sort of VB documentation that covers this that would alleviate you from having to write a whole seperate addition to the FAQ?

VB is pretty customizeable, I am sure there is some way of doing this .. after all, nothings impossible.

It would actually take quite a bit of rewriting in the actual php scripts, believe it or not.

I actually took a look at the vB source code a few mins ago, and although it would require a bit of coding if you post a request at th vB support forums, I am sure someone will answer your request .. they're a pretty friendly and helpful bunch, much like here. I may undertake it myself someday if I ever get through my todo list. :)

Not if they're using Netscape 6, which doesn't seem to show what's in an ALT tag... :(

I am guessing you can turn it on, they're an essential part of browsing for some people.
