    Hello people!

The title kind of explains itself. I'm not a native speaker, so I'd like to know what mistakes you hate when people speaks/writes in english?

    Thanks!

On forums or just how people speak/write in general? The "l33t sp34k" is always annoying, but I also really just get annoyed when there are constant spelling mistakes that could easily be fixed if one would simply read over what they had just typed up.

I am not a English native speaker either! (Who would have known?) But when I don't know the word I write it how I pronounce it in spanish!

"Hablando Inglés escrbiendo en español" Lol! Like those announcements over here.

"La palabra es Business, se escribe Business, Se pronuncia Bisness"

@Noles: as you wish, It could be written or whatever method you've used to communicate :P

@FMB: I get pissed off easily when people writes like shit in spanish >.> I specially hate that... it'd be understandable by a non-native (since I know spanish is a quite complicated language) but not from a native speaker. It's rather sad in those cases...

Amen. That's probably my bane of existence when it comes to forums. And you want to know what really stinks for me? I'm actually an English major, so it's probably double the torment. It drives me crazy when I know that the person knows better. If it's a thread topic, I'll tend to play grammar/spelling nazi and fix it. I cannot do that for every single post, though.

I do find myself occasionally getting annoyed with the non-native English speakers on some of the forums I moderate at, but at the same time they can at least spell. I don't have as much of an issue with someone who doesn't use English as their first language; they have a legitimate reason at least.

There, their, they're issues drive me nuts.

Being it is a car forum, when someone used break for brake.

'Boot' when they really mean 'trunk' of a car
'torch' when they really mean 'flashlight'
'bonnet' when they really mean 'hood of the car'
'colour' when it should be spelled 'color'

How many more would you like?

Those seriously cant get on your nerves? Theyre just the English versions of the American English. Theyre not mistakes either.

I dont hate English mistakes on our forums, we do however recommend users to type properly so others are able to read their posts and yield a better response for themselves.

One that's been popping up a lot (BTW, it's 'a lot', not 'allot') is 'sale' instead of 'sell'.

    And that's from native speakers.

    bad usage of English words

    forward planning........planning is forward
at this moment in time......as opposed to what?....this moment in cold sago?...at this moment is all that is needed.

there are probably loads of others but those crop up frequently and so spring to mind first

Not entirely the same but "chauvinism/ist annoys me too. A word derived from the French character Nicholas Chauvin in War & Peace whose overriding credo was "my country right or wrong", As such the nearest English word is "jingoism" and its original meaning concerned country not male/female in any way. Ok it has changed meaning but it still annoys me.

Not sure why everyone loves to spell this word wrong. It is rIdiculous.

Also loose and lose are not the same word. I get quite a few people mixing those up.

i dont really mind the odd spelling mistake, cause on one of my forums, a lot of members dont have english as their first language.

text talk annoys me, cause i cant understand it very well, and its a bit lazy not to type out the whole thing on a forum

Another one that I really don't like (Sorry, Banana) is no capitalization and/or punctuations.

Or (and I'm guilty of this one sometimes) the overuse of commas. :o

Ah, this one kills me...thus use of the superfluous "at" as in "Where are you at?"

Liberry as opposed to Library. I've yet to see a Liberry bush.

Boot and Bonnet don't bother me, it is an US based MINI forum and MINI has accomplished on heck of a marketing job getting owners in the US to use the terms.

I don't hate much in terms of English errors, but I do hate it (in real life as well) when people use 'like' or something after every third word they say. It sounds utterly pathetic.

    /winning-est thread!

I concur with many that have been shared, so I don't have anything new to add. If I had a complaint, it would be pure laziness of typing small words out as acronyms. Seems to derive from text messaging......RAWR!!!
