Do you think that it is better to have a shorter or longer domain name and why?

I think that the shorter the better. Shorter domains seem to stick with people easier then the longer ones. I have seen that the standard domain length is about 8 characters long and that seems about a reasonable length for me.

P.S. Sorry if this has already been started, but I did not find anything in a search.

    Nope you're the first :)
I always prefer shorter domains, as they are much more easy to remember and more search engine friendly. It's always hard to remember a domain that is very long.

I'm seconding this because a shorter domain is also good for branding.

Oh yes and that to. Google, Yahoo, and Bing are all a great example of that.

Theres nothing wrong with a long domain as long as it's clever and easy to remember like whatismyip.com. I do prefer shorter domains though, as they are easier to brand ( as said above ) and easier to remember ( also said above ).

whatismyip.com is pretty short not that big, I think he means a really long domain lol for example: theforumforadmins.com which is pretty long.

I like short domains more than long domains such as "Google" instead of "Thesearchengine".

Yea and also google sounds unique which is another reason to remember it as well as Bing.
