Found this interesting open source forum project while googling, looks pretty swell: http://esotalk.org I like the look of it and how it functions, and it looks like it's pretty great, but I haven't seen any forums using it. Does anybody use esoTalk? If so, how has the experience been?
yes http://admin-talk.com/threads/do-yo...the-paid-forum-market-soon.42005/#post-477630 ^^ (still playing with it, copying some ideas, but not using it on any live board... )
Oh cool. I want to actually switch entirely to it on my tech forum, but unfortunately you can't convert existing forums to it.
esotalk.org is a just good forum software because of features limitations, we can get a new experience there but feature wise I am not happy. I prefer: http://www.phorum.org/ http://punbb.informer.com/
From what I can see, it looks like yet another forum script meant to 'simplify' how forums work in the same bland way. Like Vanilla and Discourse or whatever it's called. Is it a decent script? Maybe, but I wouldn't ever migrate an existing site to it. Maybe I'd try it for a site with no giant expected audience and see if the members liked it, but it seems too bare bones and too 'different' to use on an existing website. And hey, it's in beta and isn't being officially supported much. That'd keep me wary of it too.
Is it still in beta stage? The first public beta version, 1.0.0 beta 1, has been released on 1 December 2009. Has it moved forward from then?
Thank you for sharing this, I've never heard of this before reading your post but it looks rather interesting, I think I'm going to take my forum off MyBB for sometime & see how the members would like this new platform? Hopefully they'll love it, as it looks like a great platform.
