I know what you mean.

 

I usually only use when somebody says something ignorant/stupid. It's the equivalent to me shaking my head no in real-life when somebody does or says something I despise.

For example:

I find myself using it a lot on vBulletin.com when conversing (or trying to) with some of the kiddie-users.

 

Hmm, that's where I differ from you guys. I tend to use the LOL smiley when I want to pick humor on someone, of course you'd have to read my post to differentiate between a joke and teasing.
