Have any of you ever considered forming a forum network that encompasses a variety of forum subjects? I have come across a couple, but the only one I can remember is Crowdgather - Crowdgather - Find it on Forums Creating a network is something that I have always wanted to do. Ideally, the network staff would generally have access to each others' forums, and we would use the variety of networks to promote the other forums in the network. We could have a "network HQ" forum where the network staff, and staff members from individual communities can collaborate and plan, etc. Maybe my idea is far-fetched but it's just something I have always wanted to do. What are your thoughts?

I am working on a Network that right now isn't happening much on since I am busy with the new upcoming entertainment community I am working on. You wanna join? :p
I've always wanted a network, eventually. It would be cool to have people talk about different things, yet connect them together in some way. Sort of like how IGN.com is.
If I'm honest, I have some network domains that I own and I use subdomains for personal projects. When one of my site grows larger I'll bind them on it.
I'm considering developing such a venture. It's an idea that has been mulling around in my head and I think I'm going to take the plunge shortly. Think of the social networking and promotional opportunities that would arise from doing so - linking various communities and managing them under an "umbrella" would work wonderfully, particularly if it's a joint venture (meaning, sharing the opportunity with a few other individuals).
We've been working on much the same thing. Currently we have 3 automotive based sites. The next trick will be linking them and allowing for shared memberships. Another interesting network is Social Knowledge - Online Community Network.
I've also been thinking about this. I could make a forum about graphic design, then that could go into Anime, and more specifically in anime anime movies or what ever. I pretty much really don't know since the two topics I would/could create a network would be Graphic Designing, don't know if chocolate confectionery could kick in between, maybe with Anime since they make some chocolates out of those.
I'm actually in the middle of planning and designing out the WDBNetwork of sites! Within the network there will be another network itself. So, should be interesting to see how it goes for me.
Thanks Chris! It's definitely a HUGE undertaking as I have a total of 100 sites planned to be up before the end of the year. I'm a bit behind at this point of the year, but I should make a big push pretty soon with some sites that I have planned.
Bingo. FoodForums. Obviously with the extensive amount of culinary creations out there, you theoretically have an endless amount of potential growth there. BTW, if you do actually use the name "FoodForums", I want part ownership, since I came up with such a brilliant name.
One of the main reasons I've never actually started a "network" was due to my favorite forum softwares not being able to support this much, much needed/requested feature. I'd love to start one, but the only way I'd do it was if I could interlink the memberships and have the sites feeding each other not only members, but easily move content around between them and more. Also lets not forget Internet Brands as a network of sites, they own probably one of the largest automotive forum networks on the net.
Don't forget Vertical Scope, they are also big players in the automotive forums network area. We are enthusiasts of the cars for the sites we turn up. While we don't have the scope the IB or VS has what we do we do well as we are part of the community.
Theoretically, there's a Joomla! plugin that can do this, but it obviously would require a Joomla! website to be running, and I'm not sure how it would work performance-wise. There really should be such a feature/mod to do this natively, though.
I don't think I could properly lump those forums together under the category "Food"; I think of them as being in the category of "Food that makes people happy". It's happiness I'm trying to sell here, not the food.
