Hi, Any chance you could use a non US format (like 01-Jan-2009) ? When I see posts etc that say 06-05-2009, I (and pretty much everyone outside the US) read this as 06-May-2009).
No, I think Paul is suggesting doing as I do on my site, and using a format that makes sense no matter where you are (eg 06 May 2009, or May 06 2009).
How it is now, it's right for the US, wrong for anyone else (I think). It seems like you are asking us to change it so it's right for "pretty much everyone outside the US", which would make it wrong for the US. Unless you meant what Mark mentioned and want a wrong for everybody compromise.
I think you misunderstood the way paul conveyed it across. The suggested format would prity much suit everyone. It can be confusing for residents outside the USA with the current M/D/Y format so the suggested format would be beneficial to everyone. Personally, I never look at the date so it doesn't bother me what format you set it to.
Yah I agree with Paul. I hate the American time layout. Having something ike 01 January would be so much better.
My opinion, this server is inside the USA, the site is ran by an American, it should use the format he/she wants. <sarcasm> Why do the british have to be backwards? Yall gotta use metric, gotta use backwards dates, drive on the wrong side of the road and yall even talk this funny form of English. Its ok my british cousins, I understand, kinda. </sarcasm> For those of you that can not read between the lines, take that first sentence and it reads more like this - My opinion, this server should use the format the owner wants, it dont matter to me.

I'm fine with international date formats (only because I understand we have a lot of members that are from places other than America). Does anybody know of a modification that will allow this to be set on a per-user basis though? I really don't want to force everybody to stick to our American ways.
I think he was just saying to put the actual month name in there right? I use the same as here to be honest. No one has ever said anything to me. I have people from over seas also...hmmm makes me wonder now.
Nah, he wasn't saying to put the actual month in there. He was suggesting to switch the dates to the international format. Instead of American format: 6-19-09 (June 19, '09) Use international format: 19-6-09 (June 19, '09) It's easy for them to mix up dates such as 3-4-09. To us, that's March 4th, but to them it's April 3rd.
Yeah, I just found a plugin on the org and I'm installing it now. It's for an older version, but I suspect it should work just fine.

Just use an expanded format: Expanded US Format (e.g., April 25th, 1998): F jS, Y Expanded European Format (e.g., 25th April 1998): jS F Y I personally, like the Expanded European Format even though, I live in the U.S.
