Hi guys, Now that we've grown some, we are considering a "Community of the Month" feature and we want to know if that's something you guys would be interested in. If so, how would you like it to be run? What kind of requirements (if any) should submissions meet? Who will choose the nominees? How will the winner be elected? Please share your thoughts on this matter so that we can design the competition to suit your wants, and create something that appeals to all forum owners. Thanks!
I was hoping this idea would happen! The way I found out about this site was from the one on vbulletin.org. What were the requirements for that? EDIT: What is Board of the Month? - vBulletin.org Forum
Sounds like a good idea. As most of us know, vbulletin.org has this setup, and its nice to see what others are doing with their community.
The community of the month should be nominated by the member body but the staff will have the final say so. Only requirements I see that should be met is a certain amount of posts, user and design requirements.
you could have it apply to the entire internet, or members sites that have been reviewed a certain month which would be more personal. Or you could do both BOM and AABOM. Poll would work well for deciding which would win.
I was thinking that the Review Team should also have a say in selecting the winner; or perhaps leave it totally up to the Review Team. What are your thoughts on that?
Uhh, well I've been lurking around this thread enough! Lol, well uhh for my idea I guess... Ok well maybe We'd have a period in which members can submit the forum of their choice on a thread or on the contact the staff forum, but that way it would be flooding? Maybe just a thread I guess in which they submit the site/forum they want. Maybe make it that the thread is only visible to people and their response only? No other posts? Or make it moderate it thread so you'd have to see each post posted there and not have it displayed to the public. Maybe get the ones most mentioned to narrow it down, because with a growing board like this it might get cluttery if we submit ALL submit the boards, no? Would we be able to nominate our own boards? And how many boards will be able to nominate? I'd guess one to make it fair? Last but not least, the board of the month could it be the staff and reviewers? I don't know, x.x was my opinion newaiz. Perhaps throw Premium members, but then you'd get many people wanting to be premium members, I think that 3 Admins and 2 reviewers would make it fair, since it's not an even number there would be a deciding point if anything x.x!
Here's what I was thinking: On a certain date of each month, we will announce that we are accepting submissions. Members will be nominating their own board. The first 10 submissions are the only ones we accept. Once we receive 10, we (the staff and/or review team) begin our private deliberation and ultimately decide on a winner. How does that sound?
I have an idea. We make a forum were members may make one thread to enter the contest, telling us why they think they should win (or whatever we want them to put). No one may reply to the threads in this section. Then the staff/review team narrows it down to 5 or 10 and we post a public poll for the community to vote on.
I agree with the 3 admins, 2 reviewers for judging. As for the first 10 to submit, eh.... I'm not too keen on that, but there's gotta be control somewhere along the line. EDIT: Savage, I love that idea!!! Then, you don't have to worry about people submitting a site somewhere every month. And, the judges can mark when a thread was chosen, so that the particular community doesn't win again, or within the set amount of time that a community can't win after being chosen.
Is this section cleared out or archived each month? Or can members only submit once in their lifetime?
Yeah, there shouldn't be any restrictions on who can submit as long as it's your forum and you haven't already won the previous month, in my opinion.
Okay, the sub-forums have been set up (they are under "Community Advertising and Reviews") and we are accepting our first round of submissions through the 14th of July. Community of the Month
