We have a user who is coming in from IPs in Tunisia, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, etc. When I do an IP search in the admin panel, I get cannot resolve hostname. If I try to tracert them, I get "Request timed out". Does this mean they are on a proxy or doing something else fishy? They are starting to cause more and more problems and I am not in the mood. Thanks!
That's correct that it is more likely to be a Proxy. It's easy to use, such as hidemyass.com What kind of trouble is there? If they are logging in w/ such a route, then I'm not sure much can be done about it. Not sure really. I would guess some more technical people can provide some insight. I do recall seeing a mod on .org that did a resolve of proxy to real IP....
That Mod only works if the proxy doesn't strip the originator's IP out of the referrer header and most do. My board had numerous issues with proxies so we just started IP banning them one by one as they arose, eventually the issue went away. The average web user only use the popular ones such as anonymouse but the hardcore knowledgeable trolls are very difficult to get rid of!
is it a spammer? Or just a jackass with nothing better to do? Just bann his account, then turn on "user moderation" for a couple days. Once they make a second or third account, and dont get approved, they'll most likely give up. `just me 2 cents.
Can you use Traceroute, Ping, Domain Name Server (DNS) Lookup, WHOIS to find anything that you don't know already?
