Is the difference between the free and commercial-grade script(s) really that noticeable? You say that there's a major difference in terms of functionality - is there also a difference in the overall efficiency of each individual script?
here is a list of the differences translated via google... Google Übersetzer original article... WBB3- vs. WBBLite 2 - Unterschiede - Feedback - WoltLab Supportforum also addons for the full-version do not work in the light.
If I'm comprehending that correctly, nearly ever major feature included within the commercial-grade script has been completely "cut out" of the free script.
Ok, that proves I am not wrong either xD I thought there were too many red marks and that my eyes were failing, but it seems is the software that fails. Do they get many users?
many people (newbies) chose the light version because it's for free and the second generation was very popular. next thing, all addons and support are german, wich in case of most other softwares is not. on the other side woltlab and the community never really took care of foreign languages, kinda intollerance but just my 2 cents. here's a statement from the biggest english community... Hacks4wBB | WoltLab | wBBMods macht dicht! (article is in english) lots of generation 2 users and coders left the community if because the new software is just steril **** and has no future. the biggest part stays with the good working old versions. but who doesn't know the backround just reads woltlab in many footers and signs up...
I was hoping that there'd be a live demo of the free script (in order to compare the two side-by-side), but I can't find one.
I heard of it before but never tryed it. It looks like it is rellatively behind other forums even free ones. And the lite version is just laughable they even removed the PMs... Just another wannabe forum
The free version of the script is most definitely restricted, there's no question about it - I wouldn't even refer to it as a "lite" script.
Not personally, no... but from what I've read about it, I've come to that conclusion. Maybe I should try it, just for kicks.
S is used in the "English" spelling of things and they are a European company, so that would explain it. I'd bet that a lot of their userbase is from Europe. They do have a free offering as well, I wonder if that is counted in their members total.
I'm tempted to purchase a license for the hell of it - I don't even want to make an attempt to install the free version.
Have you tried to register on MyBB? I tried some time ago and could never get registered on the site. I e-mailed them several times but they never answered. Maybe this is why they have a low member count LOL
No, MyBB is actually pretty unknown as a free forum software. Some people just download it and never register.
Don't do it.. just wasting your time. It'd be like going from driving a Bentley to test driving a Daewoo.
