as an admin i have done several silly things last week i had the forum index and then opened admin in another tab. i must have clicked logout on index or something cause when i typed in my password again to log in to admin...it said i didnt have permission to access. i thought id messed up my permission or i had been banned or something...i looked and couldnt see links to admin or the staff forum on index, starting to panic, until i noticed i wasnt logged in. i have also managed to ban myself........word of warning to all admins out there, ip banning the test user you created, just to see what happens is a bad idea, cause you share an ip. also if you want to ban someone by ip, dont accidentally copy your own ip instead of the troublemaker, and ban it. im sure trolls will appreciate having the admin ban herself and having to wait for other admin to come on to un ban admin and ban troll... also the time i couldnt get into admin cause the usual link at the bottom of the forum was missing.....dont know how that bottom bit of the forum dissapeared, cause i normally dont mess around with the skins, but luckily the admin who does, fixed it! my first mod experience was nearly deleting my own account (in fact i did this several times), but i blame the forum......in modifying profiles the save changes button should never be next to the delete account button!!! (luckily we upgraded to one that was completely bananaproof..well, so i thought anyway! i still banned myself, just less often!)
Let me see... I have banned myself before (IP ban) just to see if you could do that to a founding member. Used my phone to unban my IP.
hum...I once edited a person's reply by accident, does that count? I was trying to quote him and the edit button is right beside the edit button. That is about all I can remember.
I have sometimes forgot my own password, or even the password for the .htaccess needed to reach the Admin Control Panel before, which was awkward as all hell.
I like that about myBB. I did lock out my admin account on vb when I first started working with it. I just went into the database an upgraded another user to unlock it though.
One time I had two tabs open. For some reason I got up from the computer for a few mins. When I returned I was going to delete a thread that was spam. Well I didn't notice I was on the wrong tab and ended up deleting a 107 page thread :o. I felt so bad, I ended up fixing members post counts who requested it. Couldn't do anything about the thread since it was a physical delete :\.
That's why I never hard-delete any posts or threads. If I want to "delete" a post or thread, I move it to a special hidden forum.
Once I deleted the most important thread on my forum. And there was no way to return it! Does that count?
That's what I like about IPB, I don't even give Admins (including myself) the ability to hard delete threads. Even if I attempt to delete it, it'll end up doing a move to the Trash. I'd say when I accidentally banned a member without realizing I was banning, instead of changing their group to Premium I changed them to banned. I didn't even realize it until I got a PM from them after registering another account wondering why they were banned after donating $25 lol.
In Vbulletin you can also switch this off. Now I (and my moderators) can only soft-delete posts and threads. Wow!
I once spent an hour trying to login to what I thought was my ACP but it was the ACP of another site. I then spent a good half hour explaining to the administration why my IP kept trying to access their ACP. *hangs head in shame* Also once banned my account when I first got vB a long time ago, I managed to fix it by editing the database. I'm glad vB now gives you clues on how to prevent that.
I once made a usergroup for sort of premium members and instead of copying the permissions based of registered users and then granting them access to their new private forum, I copied the permissions based on a moderator. So although they could see their new forum, they could also see the moderators forum. It was like that for a few days until one of the 12 or so cared to tell me! Ahhhhhhh. Luckily the forum was quite new and we were only really discussing where the forum was going and not really discussing members. Silly billy me. Now I have the "admin login as user" mod so I can login to a user account once I've changed their permissions or whatever to double check it's actually setup right.
can i add a new one.......somehow accidentally removing the posting permissions of members, and leaving it like that for a few days  i was wondering why there wasnt any posts by non staff members recently  luckily someone thought of the bright idea of sending me a pm on my other forum to tell me that!
: ) I've done many silly things. One of them was putting up a sticky thread/poll asking people to vote, but because I did not want comments I locked it, and no one could vote. : p
