I have noticed over the years that I am becoming less social in real life than in my online life and I don't really mind that except for the fact that my social skills are deteriorating. Anyone else notice this in your own life?
You should try being the same online as you are offline, just because you ate behind a screen don't act differently
Oh I am the same person both on and off line I just find that I dont enjoy being around lots of people so much.
I think it's an age thing...I turn 60 in a few months and I find that I just don't need as much social stimulation as I did in years past. Being the owner/admin of a fairly large and social community does however require that I stay very engaged, which I really dont mind. I think lot of folks are more social online than in real life anyhow, especially older folks. It doesnt mean you are two different people or act markedly different. It's just an observation.
If I were finding that my social skills were declining in the real world due to working on the computer too much, I'd want to identify that right away before it got worse. But I haven't found that to be the case, for me anyway.
I am the same person online and offline, but I miss communicating with people in the flesh. This life is quite lonely.
Well, yes, I do go shopping , but this is very superficial and I see my friends for the weekend, but this is very different from the situation where you work in a company and you'are always surrounded with people.
Contact with people at work is superficial. That time with your friends on the weekend is what really matters. (in my opinion)
Well, at the place where I worked from 2002 to 2008 I made some great friends who are actually some of those people I see on the weekends now. The last place I worked at was completely opposite. People weren't interested in each other. So, I believe it is possible to make some true friends at work, but of course, it depends on the work environment and the people themselves. And I completely agree with you - contact with people who matter is precious. Thank you for the encouragement!
