Well I banned a spammer this morning and now that spammer is back...using the same SN as well? When I banned this person, I also deleted their SN. Now by deleting a users SN, do you free this SN up for someone else to use again?
(I'll assume you are talking about vb since that is in your profile.) If you deleted it, how is the database supposed to know it existed and not allow it to be used again? I'm pretty sure (but not positive) that the deleted username is not 'kept' anywhere. Ban the user and then only prun banned users after a month or so.
Sign on name. That is what I was thinking about, but wasn't sure. This time around I banned the person but left them listed in the Banned section.
Always ban the user this way they cannot come back and re-register. There is also an option in the ACP (Registration options I think) that doesn't let a member register with the same user name until a certain period of time expires.
Have you put that name on the Restricted Name List? He is also probably using a Proxy; and have you banned his IP Address?
That second time around I banned the email address as well figuring his he was using a Proxy. I don't anything about the restricted name list? I'm guessing you do the same like your banning an IP or email address?
Making the user name he used Reserved, is what I meant; or even add it to the censor list. And yes, also ban IP address.. Banning the e-mail address will do any good, all the user has to do is create a new one. Only effective option would be to ban the IP Address.
Oh ya, I banned the IP address first thing but this time around I banned the sufix in his email address. I also left his name in the ban list so hopefully it keeps a better track on it. The guy's SN is GODViagra if anyone is interested...dang pill spammers
Yes sir, but at least you can make heads or tail of that guy. When I first started my forum I was getting tons of wqsgfqfeg and iuyt2ewp type user names.
I got the same idiot today too.. his email address was a .info addy right? Spamming mofos. :mad2: I banned him before he even confirmed his email address..probably a bot
Another "one" to look out for is 'viagraonlines' - he/she registered on a forum of mine a few months back and immediately began to post his/her wonderful work.
Thanks for the heads up. On a side note, did you know Viagra was originally created to treat arthritis? Also, did you know a MLB pitcher is using Viagra to cure his wrist pains? I'll try finding his name, but I know it's on a blog I read sometimes.
hum...I heard they created it to help open up blood vessels for heart patients but noticed their male patients ended up with rather larger parts in the gentile area. Either way, I know they use a substance in products for weight trainers that yielded similar results. I used to take it my self back when I was a regular at the gym. I didn't notice much below the belt but it did great above the belt.
