what is the best background colour to use for general logos and banners?

 

Depends on where the banner is going to be used, always a good idea to make it transparent, but if you cannot do that choose whatever colour is of the area it will be placed. It will blend in better then.

 

Transparent. Definitely. It looks the best for almost any logo in my opinion.

I would say use transparent since it always matches the theme
