As an admininstrator are your forums stats important to you, if so what are the main ones you look at daily? posts, topics, users or post per day. Also do you panic if you see a big drop in posts?

Everyday I look at the users, threads and posts, but my forum making days are over.

I usually check the board stats (new threads, new posts, registrations, and registered user visits) fairly regularly, and then check Google Analytics once every couple of months

Posts and members. Take the number of posts and divide it with the number of members. Check to see if the forum is doing well.

CheckIng those are important but you need to also check any stat reports available to you from your host. Most often, it's the Awstat section, tells you much more about the forum that is shown on your forum page.

Two of my favorite parts to check are what browsers are being used to check the forum out and what keywords were used to find the site.

Yea same here I like that to, I was impressed that there are barely any IE users, chrome and fiefox are the most used ones and they are 50/50 with each other.

I just check how many unique visitors came to the site and I look through the search engine keywords that are driving traffic. I don't care that much about new threads or posts.

I always check statics. It is great to watch my forum grow. I also look at more complicated statics as well. Awstats is awesome!

Does it not put any of you off though when an admin sprouts off about the stats all the time, does it not make you feel like that you are just a stat and not a valued member?

I hate when any Admin Brags about their sites, being proud is different but you can tell when someone is bragging.

Stats are as important as you make it out to be. I have goals that I set for myself that I wish to accomplish, and I always do thanks to the users. Some of my users would also talk about the stats, especially if we're getting close to a major milestone or something.

I just check to make sure there is a decent amount of activity.
When we have a slow day, yea it's not a good feeling. When we have a slow couple of weeks, something needs to be done. That is when I will normally hold some kind of contest.

Great minds think alike, eh? I tend to run contests when I want to wake up the posters. When we have contests going, we tend to do ~500 to 600 posts in a day. Currently, we're doing 200 to 300 a day, so the contest really evens things out in the end, and plus, it drives new members in.

Yes and no. No, because they are not a direct reflection on a forum's value. There are many forums with big stats that have a lot of crap content or are basically dead. It's a good way to keep track of your community progress though and see how it works on a longer term, so I do take them into account myself.

Do you think stats, users online, post count, and number of members can play a role in attracting new users to join up?

    Yes and no.
If a forum has less than 1,000 posts and maybe less than a 100 members, I am more than likely not going to sign up. If i see a few thousand posts and a few hundred or thousand members registered and people online, I probably will.

Just because to me, it looks dead.

Or if i do register(I usually try to register to all forums I get on), the stats do play a part in whether or not i'll be back.
