I think your biggest problem is SMF. Even with a tweaked design, it's a horrible script and it drives your forum to the ground. The content quality is amazing, you're active and start like a gazillion of threads and are one of the most committed admins I have ever met. But the fact you're not using VB or (better) XF is hindering your site's growth. I log in daily in AAF and, even if I come with the willingness to be active, when I see that script, I just lose interest and leave. I would invest the $140 and get a decent script, you'd see some serious improvement with the site, IMO.
