Actually, I did forget Pisoga did this, but it was for community purposes, no harm.

We would do this for the reason to give the user a public chance to defend themselves why they were banned, also, served as a reminder to the mod so they would unban when their ban term was over.

Usually the style we used was:
    Username:
    Reason:
    Ban Term
    Screenshots if any

Since with out screenshots it was User Vs. Mod. But this system was implemented on Pisoga long before me, I haven't continued it.

I have it set to that banned members don't even show up on the member list.

We actually have two usergroups, banned members, and suspended members. Neither shows in the members list.

Mine do not show up on the member list either. Thank you for your post, it reminded me to check that.

Members dont need this information at all and would certainly kill off most forums especially with the ban reasons for example one of ours may say "Spammed Advertisements - Read our rules first" or "After those insults youre no longer welcome", members can interpret these differently to ourselves as admins, maybe seeing us as in the wrong for ridding of someone for being very cheeky and insulting as it is one of their friends.

We used to do it only for chat bans, never killed the site. It reminded the mod that they needed to unban the person and also it reminded people that the rules were not to be taken as a joke.

It does have its uses then, I can see moderators using it as a little tool in their arsenal.

Many forums have a "Village of the Banned"

I absolutely despise them and I think they are bad for any site with them. People do not need to know who is banned but if they do they could just PM a administrator.

hmmmmmmmmmm i cant say i agree with this, looking at the bad language and silly reasons on that banlog....im not sure i even want to join that forum after seeing that

i have never had to ban, except for the odd bot, but i think that it sets a bad example to new members, especially if the bans are for silly reasons.

if i was banned from a forum i would at least want it to be kept private, except for my rivals forum, but she made a sticky on how i was banned (silly woman didnt ban me from chat straight away so i was lurking for a bit!) but then again i want my legacy as forum troll to live on in the hearts of that gang, to remind them not to troll me on other forums

the only people who other members bans should be discussed with is the other staff members, in a private section of the forum that nobody else can see.

We're a laid back off topic forum, it doesn't hurt us one bit. Also if you've been banned it's not exactly like you should have the privilege to hide... arrests are public record, this is just a silly forum ban

    :)
