I wouldn't buy a dead forum and try and resurrect it, I would buy some smaller ones and merge them to an existing board though.
Should of been the only one I've used on a live site. Tested all the others locally but never got on with them.
It's really only a bug fix release, nothing new in it.
Would go with phpBB, only free one I've used.
I don't have a test forum on my host, any testing is done locally.
