Is anyone here planning on attending? I've always wanted to go, but have been a bit more distant from forums these past few years. Maybe this year is the year.

Any previous attendees - how was it? Relevant to our admin communities?

    Thanks

There was one a couple years ago in Chicago. I had an early morning meeting and I was parked in the Merchandise Mart parking lot the place it was being held at. I planned to stop in after my meeting. For some reason I decided against it.

    Where is this years at?

If the upper management of VB/IB were there to actually answer questions, it would be good to attend.

Haven't heard good enough reasons to go out there and received some bad feedback from a few that did go, Also, not a big fan of the company that puts it on.

Fair enough. Personally I'd rather much interact with other forum owners than the execs who have screwed many of us over.

Not to worry. I was there last year and so was McGanty who runs vBulletin. I approached him right before he spoke and asked if we could talk after. He said yes, and then ran out the door as soon as his panel was finished.

True to form the cowards run and hide when asked to explain. A common trait for VB/IB and staff it seems.

I didn't even ask for that - never got that far. I was very pleasant (intentionally) and he ran away like a little girl. I followed up with an email which he never answered either, also pleasant.

They picked a really bad week for me this year, I wouldn't even be able to go if I really wanted to.

    The agenda for Forumcom 2014:
    http://www.forumcon.com/agenda/

Does it seem that a certain organization is not showing? Despite being a "GOLD" sponsor, maybe they are in a "beta" gold stage.

There are a couple of interesting speakers there. So nice job on getting the line up.

But yeah, no IB management as speakers. Doesn't mean they won't be there though.

I see a few I wouldn't mind meeting. Actually maybe just two. If ForumCon would step outside of California and Chicago (aka their hometown circle jerk) then they might actually get some more people to show up instead of having embarrassing numbers like this: http://xenforo.com/community/threads/are-you-going-to-forumcon-2014.68870/

I think it is also funny that the two different people who create the ForumCon 2013 and ForumCon 2014 threads on there are both on my ignore list.

Um, San Fran is sort of the world's IT capital, being it is smack dab next to Silicon Valley and because almost all the big IT companies are headquartered there. If the numbers are bad there, they'd be even worse anywhere else.

I'd also venture to say, the numbers you see on in that poll aren't very indicative. They could have been a completely other extreme, had Kier or Mike said they'd be speaking there. It is only indicative of the XF community's participation, which actually Viglink should have tried to "capture" in some way. I wonder if they made any advances towards XF in that respect.

What does Silicon Valley have to do with Forum Owners? Most of the forum owners I know have never been to ForumCon and the ones that have will not go back.

Putting a convention for forum owners in one of the most expensive cities in America isn't optimal. You will greatly reduce the people that will show up because most forum owners are not Vertical Scope or Internet Brands. They are people who, if they are making a living from it are doing so at a modest level.

I know WHY Forumcon is held in San Francisco. Its because the people putting it on can make the most money doing it there and the catchy name grabs from the Venture capital fueled startups are there.

Our recent meet in Austin, TX was low profile and included people from all over the world. ForumCon is put on to cater to $$$ and not to forum owners. That is how I see it and many that have been there have seen it that way. That is why they are desperately trying to knock that vibe off in the recent years but you still see the same people popping up with the same agendas.

If they want to get the most Forum owners in one place, putting it in San Francisco is not how to do it.

Where would you expect them to get more traction than in the most IT tech filled area of the world?

Places where forum owners are more likely to attend an event for Forum owners. Maybe not the most expensive place in the entire country put on with little more than venture capitalist fueled speakers.

Austin, TX worked very well for us. Lots of forum owners in Texas and it is much more central and cheaper to travel to.
