I think it has been quite obvious for some time the answer to that question is yes. I'm sure there are many here who will argue the point with me, and in their respective corners of the internet, maybe not, but it happened in my businesses exactly as your graph portrays.

2006/2007 was roughly when FaceBook gained critical mass.

I honestly don't understand why people post things like this and don't explain why.

Well, it's about a week and a half since I started this thread, this was the stats at the time...

    Now the stats are;

    vB 5.10 thread : Posts: 280 - Views: 8,103

    xF 1.3 thread : Posts: 426 - Views: 84,458

The views for xF1.3 are up by a massive 15,408, whereas vB5 are up by just 842 !!!!!!!!!

The number of posts on the xF thread has increased, yet those on the vB5 thread are going backwards - I assume it's a post cull, but I guess it could be a bug.

To be fair though, the xenForo thread can be accessed by everyone, including guests, while the vB5 thread can only be accessed by licensed customers.

I think a better and more fair comparison of the popularity of vBulletin now against xenForo is by looking at the current visitors in both vBorg and xFcom:

    vBorg: 308 (38 members and 270 guests)
    xFcom: Total: 603 (members: 64, guests: 470, robots: 69)

I don't know if xF is always beating vBorg in traffic lately, but the last time I had checked (maybe a year ago or so) vBorg was way ahead of them.

Any reason why we're not using the vBcom data?

Also FWIW, only reason why the vB 5.1 thread is probably hiding in the licensed area is because IB is afraid of scaring off potential customers.

The 'who's online' feature has been disabled on vBcom since they 'upgraded' to vB5. At least my group is not allowed to access it.

That's quite possible. My point was that the huge difference in number of views between the two threads was because one of them was open to everyone while the other one is restricted to a few.

Well, I commend the fact that they have the vB5 feedback forum out "in the open". It is just incredibly poor to let posts like this one sit uncommented from an official position in the public eye. Talk about a sales killer. :wacky:

But then again, what could they say? Lie and say it is fine to upgrade, with 10 people saying don't do it?

That thread is just another whopping indicator of the disconnect between the people leading vBulletin and their customers. It IS THE REASON why there is a massive lack of interest in vB5. The leaders, the ones responsible, the ones calling the end all shots, aren't really interested in the product and its effect on customers at all! Or so it seems. It is kind of like the rule of life , "you have to learn to love yourself first, before others can truly love you too." IB's management need to find a lot of love for vBulletin and its customers and more importantly.....DEMONSTRATE IT.

Then, you might start to see some more interest. I say might, because this is only one part of what I think is the "success equation".:sneaky:

It may be a bug, or - more probably - someone deleted them intentionally. As of me the second one seems more probable.

Was reading that post you linked to on vB. Members are not half having a POP about vB5 telling him not to upgrade for a year at least, lol.

What a classic reply in that thread, it really has gone downhill over their at vB.

No it wasnt, and that particular conspiricy makes little sense.
3.8.8 (Beta 1) was first released almost a year ago now, if that really were the reason, then you think they would be using it - how many IB sites are running 3.8.8 ?

No one had access to it before it was released except me & QA.
What would be the point of "their sites" having access first when cleasrly they are not using it.

I have no interest in vb5 what so ever. 5.1.0 might have new features but it still isn't any good imo. Once a huge fan, it seems to be getting worse and worse as time goes on.

Why is it that everyone can clearly see that VB5 is a total failure as was stated many times, yet the VB/IB management cannot understand this simple fact?

Roll on VB6 for more high farce.

The software didn't have a great start, but it doesn't matter where it started, it matters when it ends up. Nothing is a failure until you give up on it. It hasn't been easy buy VB is working on the problems. 5.1.0 is far better than the betas or the 5.0.0 release and it will continue to improve.

The problem with this is it shouldn't take years for it to become stable and usable. When vbulletin 3 went into beta, I was on the private beta team, it was stable enough to run on a production site. I know I ran it on my visual basic million+ post forum.

There were other problems with the release, but, none of them were because the software wasn't stable.

In contrast it took vbulletin 4 almost 2 years to be stable after release. Now with vbulletin 5, it's what over a year old now, and it still is in shambles. By the time 4.1 was released you could see it wasn't going to be too much longer before it turned out to be up to vbulletin standards. I doubt vbulletin 5 will ever get to that point.

Say what you want to defend IB, but, they are clueless when it comes to customer relations and software development and they have ruined the once fine vbulletin brand.

It didn't stop them putting it out for sale?

And this is what the customers have done in their droves ..
