I think you meant "The Future of SEO - 2014".

"The Future of SEO - 214" would actually be in the past.

There is no future in SEO. The very term derives from an age when people were able to understand and therefore demystify and reverse engineer the way search engines prioritized websites in their results. Do you remember the 90s? Search engines were DUMB. You could be a nobody with a certified garbage website and still fool those sites because the algorithms they implemented to draw those results were very simplistic and not advanced enough in nature to account for pretty much everything you have today.

Google is a formidable frighteningly large beast. You're dealing with a multi billion dollar enterprise which makes money off the relevancy of its search results so it has to be damn good. It has to be smart enough to know that more than 100 million people at any given time are trying their best to cheat it, work around its techniques and artificially elevate their search rankings.

I think SEO has become such a overhyped buzzword that it's lost all meaning. It's almost become a bastardized version of itself because the very problems people came to google to solve (ie lack of online business presence) are literally the most competed against in terms of SEO. It's a big running joke in the google offices that stupid rehashed SEO articles occupy 40% of their server space.

This is very well said. One of the reasons I think content will outstrip SEO very swiftly, either as search engines become black boxes that are impossible to reverse engineer, or people start ignoring the "top result" in favor of content.

Well it's said about 80% of web users use Google for searching with, and Google these days doesn't put much weight (if any) on your sites SEO when comes to ranking pages. So what's the point bothering with it really?

I was listening to it on the radio in the car being talked about. But think most people know anyway, that most web users most likely would use Google search first, unless you're a newbie stuck with using MSN still. It said it was between Bing and Google most did use these days, but Google had a massive usage number over Bing.

I wasn't exactly surprised to hear those stats mentioned on the radio, pretty much expected it.

I guess I don't see how that justifies your statement that Google doesn't care how well a website is optimized for Search Engines?

For instance, Google doesn't rank a page higher than another on a forum, just because one might contain keywords in the URL structure.. So where is the advantage in having SEO keywords in a forum URL, over another that doesn't use them like phpBB3 or default vB3. Google now ranks pages based on content, not the url.

So there is one example in which site SEO can be pointless in Google, as Search Engine Friendly URL's is one form of site SEO.

Have you heard of the phrases "content is king" it's been around a while and has always been a leading factor with a sites SEO strategy.
Here are more suggestions from Google on optimizing your site for better search engine placement and ranking.

Sure it is https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/66356 glade you do not know it. Best thing is you think your site is indexed all right with links but it is not the penalty is not apparent but if you develop the site like Google suggest then your rank will be higher.

Thats the problem good SEO has two part one is how users see and work with it and second the search engines. You need a person that can keep up and know what he or she is doing SEO these days its a job.

There are some reasons. For example:
    1. RankBrain
    2. Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP)
    3. The Knowledge Graph & rich answers
    4. Real-time, integrated penalty filters

SEO at the moment is very closely tied to content marketing. While Google can interpret content and derive its relevance to search queries with a very high degree of success, it is constantly focused on making refinements to improve how timely, contextual and useful this content is to the searcher. The Knowledge Graph, rich answers, RankBrain and AMP all serve this purpose, while integrated penalties maintain the quality of results.
