No emotional ties for me, at least not with the forums. There were a few great admins.
I never understood why people cash out and then try to act as if IB or VS forced them to sell. I suppose its to save face amongst their e-peers.

I agree with this completely. vBulletin had built a small industry around it. IB completely ignored this very important marketing fact. They'd all but alienated the devs, when they developed vB5, less the few beta testers. There still isn't one letter of decent documentation about how to develop add-ons for vB5, for instance. So, it is their fault, at least partially, for the failure of vBSEO and all the other supporting companies built around vBulletin.

I am sure you were emotional at the time of building your communities. If you weren't, they most likely wouldn't have been worth selling.;) You just knew at the time of sale, that emotions had to be dropped and did that, which is a smart thing. When you exit an enterprise, which you've built yourself, you must detach yourself from it. I'd bet that is why the founder of Snapchat didn't sell out to Facebook for 3 billion. His wasn't ready to detach his emotions for his enterprise just yet. And that is a lot of emotions.;)

I acquired the majority of my sites.
I started a handful of sites from scratch, 3 were decent enough to sell. Others failed.
I had no attachment to any of the sites. I was attached to the $ that came in monthly.
I was sad for some of the admins who I became friends with outside of the boards.

I wish I got offered any billion.

Yes, I read in the german vb forum about the drama. with IB. It is unbelievable...

When I started my forum, I wanted a vB at first, but then I read about the awful vb5 and that the german support is closed, and so I decided to use WBB.

There is German support on vB.com. The German support you are mentioning is that supplied by my company. It is definitely closing up the vBulletin Support shop at the end of this year to do bigger and much better things.

It's curious but since XenForo started gaining more popularity than vBulletin I thought that this latter would die soon.

But certainly we have one of the most active vBulletin sections and there is always something to discuss about it, that keeps the interest on this software up.

In fact I have seen many forum updating to the latest vBulletin version rather than switching to a different forum script.

I'd say vBulletin is still in people's minds, because it was a great software, it still has a number of very passionate customers and unfortunately, almost everything that is news for vBulletin turns into a comedy, so it is also entertainment.

Absolutely. The antics at vBulletin are great entertainment to me. Maybe IB should consider making a sitcom like, "The Office", based around vBulletin.

For me, it was sympathy for the support team, when I also "worked" for vBulletin. Now it is pity I feel for IB in general. Pity in the sense of Mr. T's great quote.

:agreed:These are pretty much thoughts. Despite it's flaws I used to be fierce loyal to vBulletin. Now, it's like watching a train wreck. You sit back and watch thinking "How much more can these clowns muck things up".

It's almost like Schadenfreude although I really don't take pleasure in their failure only in the fact that they keep on failing despite overwhelming advice from people who care(d?) on how to do the right thing.

It's almost like Oh that Scott guy has good ideas lets do the opposite of what he says. :pompus:

Cool, I didn't think Schadenfreude was an English word or rather used in English. (it is actually a German word). But you are absolutely right and that word describes the situtation. I think now a good number of passionate people/ ex-customers of vBulletin have accepted the fact vB will never return back to its glory days. They are now happy to just watch the train speed up towards the next wall to crash into (a wall called vB5.1.0). Although I don't want IB or vB to fail, I actually expect them to and I think now many others do to. It is now not a question of if vBulletin will die, it is a question of how long will it take, unfortunately.:(

I've heard it used in English quite a few times. Then again I live in an area with quite a bit of German ancestry. I'm half German myself.

Schadenfreude came to mind mainly because one of my biggest clients out of Munich and drops German idioms in our conversations then explains them to me. I usually give a similar English saying. He mentioned Schadenfreude just the other day, although I knew it's meaning, I was dying to find a good use case for it. :evillaugh:

Schadenfreude is used quite a bit in English, though I think it's widely known that it's a German word.

I don't mourn for vBSEO, however I do feel for the sites who depended on it over the years and who find themselves up the creek without a paddle.

I'm just glad I always listened to the advice from the support team of the time, all those years ago, who clearly stated vBSEO was not necessary. Otherwise, today I'd probably be looking for a paddle in the very same creek.
