Lol, couple vbseo threads and the vBulletin section is leaving the other sections in the dust!

Just shows how much drama the vBulletin community attracts, this is not directed to IB, just how the whole vBulletin community is in turmoil right now.

For some reason this forum never covers when the IPS forums are DDoS'ed after a big update release.

I suppose is someone doesn't come and mention it, then it goes unnoticed. I have an IPS licence and didn't know about it :)

It seems we go through phases around here. I, as well as many who visit, have a long standing vbulletin relationship so we know a bit more about it compared to other scripts. So that gets talked about in general more but many of us have gone to xenforo so we get quite a bit of xf discussion as well. I know a small percentage of our users have an ip.board and a topic is started every now and then but the other 2 get the majority of the discussion for sure. I’ve seen a MyBB thread here and there, mainly graphic showcases, very few phpbb or smf.

I guess IPB customers have nothing exciting to talk about. :D

Nothing to talk about with xenForo or IPB really. They just work and the people behind them aren't idiots. :)

To be fair, the vBSEO thing isn't exactly the fault of Internet Brands, its all about the recent failings of a company/software that just happens to be for vBulletin owners. The same would probably be true if it were an IPB or XenForo plugin.

IPB was going to have this neat thing (from a modification author) where you could have your members use, send, and read emails using your domain. IPS is very strict with certain things when it comes to modifications. That would have been topic worthy I guess.

Don't member email mods exist for multiple forum scripts? I know I've seen quite at least one or two mods that allowed exactly this.

What happened though? Why was it controversial?

IPS doesn't really draw a lot of heat. And actually, it's a good thing that it doesn't. Because with the amount of hacking that goes on, it could have been a whole lot worse than what vBSI/IB has been getting.

Both the vBulletin and XF forums are active in their nature. Users here love talking about each software.

Yes it is. IB destroyed the product that many other people made a living supporting. It's a circle of support. You make a great product. Other people make the product more useful and give more reason to buy your product. Everybody wins. You totally destroy your product, your reputation and the support of your customer base and then the peripheral companies start losing as well and cease making your product more useful. With your demise comes their demise and with theirs comes your downfall. It's a downward spiral.

I agree, IB has been a total failure, even towards the sites I sold them. :/

Must hurt to see your hard worked sites owned by IB who turn them into cash cows :(

I was doing really well off them before I sold. My earnings seemed to be the hangup for companies interested in the sites, how could they get a return quick enough.

The only disappointment I have is that they mistreated a few communities that were truly something special. Within 2-3 months I seen some of the more active sites lose substantial logins (200-400 a day). Some sites just died. I was told for 6 months one site had no content between nav and footer as they broke it, no one cared to fix it. Killed that site as well.

In the end, I got paid. I opted not to sell everything as I kept my RC site. I knew full well what the larger companies were capable of when they acquired sites, so I washed my hands of them immediately. Part of my contract was the ability to walk away immediately unless I opted to remain.

Yeah, if you sell and don't stay on in any capacity, you also have to be willing to break all emotional ties. But your story just reaffirms IB's story. They are basically an M&A company, only interested in milking their investments to get a profit. If they want to improve their business to be much more sustainable, they must learn to think differently about what their business is all about.
