I plan to fresh install 4.2.2 but I noticed the issues that some people have with PHP related errors and this solution; http://tracker.vbulletin.com/browse/VBIV-15862 confuses me even more. I have tried asking in vB.com but have yet to receive any reply so I'm asking here; Does these errors affect performance and to what scale?
No, they dont affect performance. They are php warnings, the only difference is that 4.2.2 displays them, while older versions did not. The changes in 15862 allow you to turn off the display of them, should you be experiencing any of them.
Are the causes of the PHP warnings things that can be fixed? Wouldn't that be the right way to go about getting rid of them? Or are the causes unavoidable, due to certain setups? Scott
Need some more clarifications, adding to Scott's questions; - What are the cause of these errors? (just give me the general idea) - Why these errors doesn't affect performance? (just give me the general idea) - Following the JIRA's logic, why not suppress them all from the start? Why now?
The problem with on-premise software like vBulletin (or any other software you download and upload to a web server), is that the developers can only test on a limited number of server setups. When a customer has a setup a bit more exotic or different than what was tested for, then these kinds of warnings can pop up. I am not saying that is the reason for the warnings. It's just a possibility. BTW, Is the troll poll correct in this thread? Scott
If they are in the core, yes they can be fixed (as it says in the announcement, all the known ones were). If they are in modifications, then they can only be fixed by the mod coder. Since the release, some new ones have been noted in the core, they should be logged in Jira so they can be fixed. In the meanime, you can use the modified core file to suppress them.
I know that both vBulletin 4.2.2 and vBulletin 5 run some errors people are now complaining about, but I have no idea why the troll poll was posted here, nor it this is the correct thread. However I must admit that is a funny and original idea
Download the latest version(On or After Nov 1) from vbulletin site . This will fix the issues you see!
