Interesting nobody has posted this here yet. Guess interest in vB5 has dropped that badly. At any rate. Just some things I notice real quickly. The good. The search seems to have been improved as it actually finds things now. The threads being shown as read seems to be working better. Subscriptions seem to be working now. In activity feed items, the "replied" link actually goes to the reply now. The bad. Page loading speed isn't any better on the pages, where it was slow before. Forum index and the forum thread listings, for example, are still slow. The search time still shows "0" seconds. There seems to be a strange issue with post counts going to"0" in the forum thread listing. It is intermittent though. The "go to unread post" button from the thread listing still goes to the same post all the time on some posts. It makes you feel like Bill Murray in Ground Hogs Day. Looks like "starting a topic" is the only activity being shown in the "Latest Activity" listing. The lame javascript page navigation is still there. The display of the subscriptions is whacked. There is always a certain amount of white space after each post. A total waste of screen real estate and a cause for unnecessary scrolling. The way "photos" are shown in posts is still mofugly. Why is there an indication of how many photos there are? I mean, I can see there is "1 Photo". Sometimes I think whoever does the UI design thinks users are morons. Like the "See More" links in the activity feed. This kind of "dumbness" is all over the place. vB5 is still a beta software at best. Scott
They're working on trivial issues, not major ones. It's progress but not to the extent I need. I need the Blocker, Critical, and Major issues resolved, you know, the ones that keep being bumped to later versions.
I think it has the potential to be a cutting edge product. That doesn't mean it will ever reach its potential.
Do you really think so? I mean, that they aren't attacking the more major issues and only the minor ones are getting the most attention? I am not following the corrective action that closely, so I can't make that judgement. Do you have a couple of more prominent examples? Scott
I use the JIRA tracker like I'm supposed to. I've had a great deal of support from Wayne Luke and others and have never had anyone reject any of my ideas unless they were duplicates of existing items.
I have the potential to be President once I hit 35. Everything has potential initially. vBulletin 5 has 0 potential with the current management now.
I see Vbulletin is taking the current stance our president takes on everything. It will be done, but 6 months later nothing has been done to address the problem. I honestly think they are going backwards not forward.
I'm referring to the product itself, not to any specific developer(s) or to IB management. If I wanted to be negative about the product at every opportunity I'd have your position. I don't, and so I don't share your position. If worse came to absolute worst I could pay someone to complete the development of the product. I may have to do that for customizations anyway because I don't have the time to do it myself. So, what's the difference? Either way I get a useable product in the end game.
Uh yea. Much better options than hiring someone to fix vBulletin 5 lol Whatever floats your boat though. Your site. Spend away on vBulletin 5 or sit around waiting for it to work the way it is suppose to. I'd rather use phpBB than vB 5.
XenForo and IPB fill a niche. Just not the one I'm trying to fill. vB5 may not fill it either but it has the potential to do so, whereas XF and IPB don't. They're working versions of vB4. That's not what I'm after.
Both xenForo and IPB have far better futures ahead of them. Like I said, you can hope vB 5 will get its shit together and I'll hope I become President at 35. I bet my chances are better
It doesn't matter that realistically you won't be President at 35, you have the "potential" to be and that is apparently more important than reality.
