I've been following bitcoins for about 6 months now, they've been around since 2009 but recently got a lot of press so more and more people are hearing about them.

Here is a short video on them.

Have you heard of them, what do you think about the idea, do you own any BTC's?

I sold all the ones I had to @Brandon :) .. I made a bot awhile back, it probably needs to be revised since I abandoned it, but I did all the faucet sites automated and I was getting close to 1 BTC a day ..Though it took a ton of time to do it

Did you have to manually enter in the Captcha?

Did you watch the video @Big al ?
It's not being "backed" by anyone, also your search term brought less then 400 results. So.. not sure what your point there was?
It's actually decentralized, no one entity is backing it.

Yes I watched the video. My point? I have seen many similar schemes. You say "It's not being "backed" by anyone" Exactly my point, what is to stop it from collapsing?

Is the number of results relevant to the stability of it? I searched for "Bitcoin scam" I am sure I could find quite a few more searching for variations.

    You asked:
I have given you my thoughts on it.

It is your free choice, personally I would not touch it with a barge pole.

UPDATE. Here are over 1,000 results when I search " Is bitcoin a scam " NONE of these were posted by me, but by others.

It's been around since 2009, it's not a scam and if you look at the results above you'll see not all 1000 or likely even 1/4 of those are of people "getting scammed" they are articles about bitcoin in general. It's ok, I'm not suggesting everyone switch their fiat over to Bitcoin, just trying to bring a little BTC discussion to Admin Talk. ;)

I believe in it and actually have a few bitcoins now, I think it's the future, I guess we'll just have to wait and see how it plays out.

I've used them, bought them, sold them and have the client on my laptop :P

Shame my step-dad blocked the required port - the client can't connect anymore :(

    Also, I think I have a few micro-coins... That's it ;)

um, well I'm way past that so I didn't notice.
I don't remember them checking, I used bitinstant.com to get USD to BTC then moved it over to btct last weekend after making a small purchase.

It may be wise to keep your AV up to date and do some scans.

@ Liam W,These are the sites that I scanned the above sites with. Please tell me which ones you are not happy with. And why.
I think they are all reliable sites.

@Big al please use the quote option if you're going to paste a lot of text like that.

Also why do you think everything is a scam site, it's really getting a bit old to read every post of yours lately.
Bitcoin.org is a safe site, it's okay if you don't think bitcoin will take off but the truth is it already is. There are large corporations every week that are adding bitcoin payment options to their business. It's not going away anytime soon and there are a lot of people that are generally interested in the idea. There are alt coins as well, it's not a one hit wonder ;)

ehhhh I think you may be getting some false positives...Here is even a post stating that may be the case http://hphosts.blogspot.com/2009/12/fyi-to-pharmalert-and-other-reviewers.html - Yeah it is old but it probably still carries weight today...

I am pretty sure bircointalk is fine lol Here is Norton saying so also https://safeweb.norton.com/report/show?url=bitcointalk.org Here also is another reputable blacklist site http://mxtoolbox.com/SuperTool.aspx?action=mx:bitcointalk.org&run=toolpage# Not on one blacklist.

When I had my hosting company..do you know how many emails I would get A DAY stating that this site or that server is now on a blacklist...99.9% of the time they were false positives. These little 'blacklist' sites are horrible....especially since they are usually never updated until the site/server owner contacts them..AND USUALLY HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE THEIR SITE REMOVED. That is the actual SCAM...
