Adobe Creative Cloud: Will you use it?

Adobe's suite of applications are really nice and awesome, not to mention popular. You see Photoshop, Illustrator, and (regrettably) Dreamweaver used everywhere for everything they are good for, and are considered applications for both pros and noobs.

However, the software has always been super expensive, and now Adobe wants you to pay per month for that software.

I think it's a major waste of money and I'm hoping free alternatives like GIMP finally become as good as Photoshop so I won't have to pay that garbage monthly fee.

You get almost all their programs for approximately $600 a year. For the license, it costs 2,599.00 + $525.00 for each update (which come out yearly at this rate). If you want just one program, say just Photoshop, it costs approximately $240 a year.

 

Adobe has always been so great. But unfortunately, their products are so high priced - specially when you are from a country where 1 USD = 55 in my currency. So I cannot afford buying or using their products. I still work on a trial version of their CS3 and I keep formatting, installing and re-installing their Photoshop as and when needed.

 

The solution I'm going to find is to format my pc 12 times a year! use the trial version for 30 days and I do it every month, it's cheaper then buying a hard drive than pay for photoshop!

 

This move HAS to cost more money for the consumer. They aren't doing it to lose money, that's for sure. I'm sure there are some little gotchas in there.

 

Download Virtual box and install windows in it. Then clone it. download the cs6 trial and use it for thirty days. Copy all work to a dvd/flash drive and delete the cloned virtual drive after thirty days

reclone the original and download adobe again.

Or you can download the adobe stuff before cloning and have it all ready to be installed again upon making each new drive..

I dislike this trend of moving software to "the cloud" and then making people rent it. If you buy software, you should be able to continue using it indefinitely. Not everyone can afford to keep paying $600/year to use Photoshop! I'm sticking with my old version.

One thing I haven't seen anyone discuss, are there any astonishing new features that would actually make it worth it?

 

rofl. Just to use Photoshop? The better solution is to either setup a virtual machine forever stuck in the date you installed Photoshop or even better, setup a script triggered by Task Scheduler every month to rewrite registry entries for Photoshop.

 

No way in hell. I don't use Adobe's software as is, but I'll say right now that this has officially turned me away from even considering it for the future.

I like to own my own software. I buy, I use forever. I don't 'rent' things (bar hosting), and if any other programs or games go this route, I'll simply stop buying them. I also refuse to touch any 'cloud hosted' product which doesn't let me access the source code or use it on my own hosting.

I use Adobe products everyday. Without them I'd probably be unemployed so I guess I'll be subscribing. I think it may work out cheaper in the long run plus the software will always be the latest versions so I'm not that concerned.

 

There was a study released not all that long ago that said that more than 75% of all installations of PhotoShop are pirated versions. I'll see if I can locate the study and post a link.

 

Same here. I don't like renting things, it doesn't give me as much control. And, I'm not using Photoshop 24/7 so there's so much time I paid for that I'm not even using, which is a waste. So the CC thing just isn't right for me either.

Yeah, notice they didn't specifically call it "renting" - though it's basically what they're doing. Of course, in the old format, you'd pay for a license to use the software, which imo is a bit similar to renting in the control aspect, but the difference is you pay a big sum and get that license for life pretty much.

 

I was fortunate and could afford an upgrade from Adobe Elements. To buy it outright was too expensive.

So no, I have CS5 and still have PSP. That's all I need and will not rent anything from them.

 

I don't understand why people go through the hassle of purchasing or using strange techniques to get around it, I would use it but never purchase it. I feel the products are way too expensive even for how useful they are, I either resort to free software or alternative methods of obtaining it.
